Head of Engineering (Pivot)

About the Job

Pivot (a strategic Payment Gateway partner of Paper.id) is looking for a visionary and battle-tested Head of Engineering to lead our Technology division. In this role, you will own the technical roadmap, architecture, and engineering execution of our Level 1 Licensed Payment Gateway platform—which powers high-volume Accept Payments, Bulk Payouts, Account Management, and Branded Wallet infrastructures for businesses across Indonesia.

As the engineering leader, you will scale a high-performing team of developers, foster a continuous delivery culture, and ensure our systems remain robust, 24/7 available, and compliant with the highest security standards (PCI-DSS & ISO 27001). This position requires a perfect blend of deeply technical expertise in high-transaction distributed systems and exceptional leadership to align technology with fast-growing fintech business goals.

Responsibilities:

• Technical Leadership & Vision: Shape and drive the long-term technical architecture, infrastructure strategy, and product engineering roadmap for Pivot’s core payment gateway products.

• Engineering Excellence: Champion high coding standards, robust code reviews, automated testing, and zero-downtime deployment practices. Ensure our infrastructure is optimized for massive transaction concurrency and microsecond latencies.

• Team Scaling & Mentorship: Lead, mentor, and expand a world-class engineering team (Backend, Frontend, QA, DevOps). Cultivate an inclusive, high-ownership, and innovative engineering culture.

• API & Developer Experience (DX): Oversee the design and maintenance of highly reliable, clean, and developer-friendly APIs, SDKs, and webhook infrastructures that clients can integrate within days.

• Security & Compliance Governance: Partner with the IT GRC team to maintain rigorous compliance with Bank Indonesia (Level 1 PSP regulations), PCI-DSS Level 1, and ISO 27001 security parameters. Implement state-of-the-art fraud detection and data encryption layers.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the Head of Product, Business Development, and executive stakeholders (including alignment with Paper.id’s ecosystem) to transform strategic goals into scalable software solutions.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience: Minimum of 8+ years in software engineering, with at least 3-5 years of proven experience in engineering leadership roles (Engineering Manager / VP of Engineering / Head of Engineering) within Fintech, Payment Gateway, Core Banking, or high-volume E-commerce.

• Technical Mastery: Deep hands-on experience in building scalable distributed systems, microservices architecture, cloud infrastructures (AWS/GCP), high-performance databases (SQL/NoSQL), and asynchronous messaging queues (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ).

• Domain Knowledge: Solid understanding of financial transaction flows, ledger systems, transaction reconciliation algorithms, payment clearing mechanics, and split-payment configurations.

• Security Mindset: Practical knowledge of building secure web applications, data masking, tokenization, multi-layered fraud prevention tools, and handling automated 2FA/OTP structures.

• Leadership & Communication: Strong executive presence with a proactive and communicative attitude. Ability to convey complex technical architectures to non-technical stakeholders clearly.

• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
