The London Metal Exchange is the world centre for industrial metals trading. Most of the world’s global non-ferrous futures business is conducted on the LME’s three trading platforms totalling $18 trillion, 178 million lots and 4 billion tonnes with a market open interest high of 1.8 million lots in 2024. All trades are cleared and settled by LME Clear.
Participants can transfer or take on price risk against aluminium, copper, nickel, tin, zinc, lead, molybdenum, cobalt, lithium, steel scrap, rebar and hot-rolled coil as well as alumina, aluminium premiums and alloys.
The LME and LME Clear are HKEX Group companies.
Overall Purpose of Role:
The Head of DevOps Tooling leads the strategic direction, implementation, and optimisation of DevOps practices and tooling across the organisation. This is a hands-on engineering role, responsible for ensuring scalable, secure, and reliable software delivery pipelines, supporting infrastructure automation, and platform resilience. The role holder will manage a team of DevOps Tooling Engineers, defining tooling standards, and drive continuous improvement across CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, and monitoring systems.
This role will work closely and collaboratively with all IT functions to define and execute the LME-wide DevOps tooling strategy and roadmap, and to continuously push innovation in all areas of the business. The role expects the candidate to be able to work in a fast-paced environment and have a problem-solving mindset with an in-depth understanding of complex IT systems from deployment, and configuration as well as support and maintenance perspective.
The role sits within the DevOps Tooling Team reporting directly to the LME Trading Chief Technology Officer.
Responsibilities:
Strategy & Leadership
Define and execute the company-wide DevOps tooling strategy and roadmap.
Lead DevOps and platform engineering teams across teams.
Align tooling and automation practices with business delivery goals.
Monitor emerging trends and recommend technical direction for modern DevSecOps tooling and patterns.
Tooling & Infrastructure
Oversee CI/CD pipeline governance using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, CircleCI.
Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with e.g. Terraform, Ansible.
Provide the tooling suite to manage container orchestration platforms (Kubernetes, OpenShift).
Manage migration of DevOps tooling onto the Private Cloud solution.
Monitoring & Reliability
Ensure robust monitoring, alerting, and incident response using Grafana, ELK Stack.
Standardise incident management and recovery strategies.
Security & Compliance
Embed DevSecOps practices and automate compliance checks.
Collaborate with security teams to maintain platform security and auditing.
Collaboration & Communication
Partner with engineering, product, QA, and security teams to streamline releases and implement firm adherence to SDLC guardrails.
Represent DevOps metrics and decisions at leadership level.
Academic and Professional Qualifications Required:
Certifications like MSCE, RHCE, MCSA or OCA would be desirable
Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) desirable
Skills set and Core Competencies Required for Role:
Experience in high-availability systems and global infrastructure.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical capabilities.
Ability to mentor and develop junior engineers.
