Location of Position
While remote candidates will be considered, it is preferred that this role be based in the NYC metro area with a commitment to a minimum of 2 in-office days.

Position Summary 

The Head of Development will lead CleanCapital’s project development team, executing on an aggressive strategy to establish CleanCapital as a leader in DG solar and energy storage development over the next five years. This role will
oversee the CleanCapital Development team;, manage CleanCapital’s development pipeline, ensuring that projects advance on time and within budget; coordinate across the organization to ensure seamless handoffs at critical project milestones; and continually assess the economic viability of projects at each stage of the project lifecycle to ensure that development capital is committed effectively. This position reports to CleanCapital’s Chief Development Officer and has direct reports overseeing engineering, project management, and channel partnerships. 

Core Responsibilities 

  • Set and meet annual development targets, including pipeline growth, project progress toward key milestones, portfolio diversity, project returns, etc. 

  • Manage and oversee all projects in CleanCapital’s development pipeline, ensuring that projects proceed efficiently towards construction. This includes stepping in as needed to address critical issues, manage unforeseen challenges, answer questions, and communicate with project stakeholders.

  • Work closely with economic analysts to ensure project viability at each stage of projects’ lifecycles, ensuring that development dollars are spent effectively. 

  • Work intimately with the Investment and Business Development teams to create and regularly update a development project origination strategy based on market and economic analysis as well development criteria. 

  • Oversee channel partnerships; liaise with outside development partners to manage deal flow, deadlines, and capital needs. 

  • Oversee the development budget and forecast, ensuring that corporate cash flow is accurate and cost management efforts are in place. 

  • Put processes in place to streamline CleanCapital’s development process, establish protocols to ensure high quality standards are consistently met, and implement an ongoing training program for the development team. 

  • Manage project development directors and development team members, encourage their growth, and help them become individual leaders within the company.

  • Work across verticals to enhance communication, eliminate duplicative work, and ensure seamless coordination among teams. 

  • Report out regularly on project progress, pipeline metrics, and upcoming project milestones; ensure the accuracy of project data and metrics for corporate use.

Education Requirements 

  • BSc/BA in engineering, building science or relevant field

  • PMP, MBA or equivalent certification/experience is a plus

Technical Skills and Experience 

  • 10+ years of experience in development within the renewable energy industry

  • Experience with solar energy, battery storage, and related technologies. 

  • Proven project management skills

  • Experience in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Excel modeling skills a plus

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. 

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to take ideas and run with them from concept to conclusion. 

  • Technical understanding of project development and clean energy business processes. 

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with superiors, peers, partners, and other stakeholders. 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
