PlayOn is looking to hire a Head of Data Strategy to develop a holistic strategy for how team members interact with data at all levels in the organization. This role will partner with departmental stakeholders to establish and adopt cohesive tools, terminology, and processes throughout the business. The Head of Data Strategy will analyze our current data practices and utilize influential leadership, industry best practices, and an architect’s mindset to drive sound data management. The ideal candidate will be obsessed with unifying the organization around a shared understanding of and trust in our data and decision-making.

Cross-Functional Collaboration  

The Head of Data Strategy serves the data needs of all functions while truly advocating for the entire company’s best interests. They excel at creating buy-in across product, finance, marketing, and operations teams to design data solutions that are beneficial for all, not just a few. They understand the needs of a technical contributor are different than those of an executive while still being able to effectively create a common data language throughout the organization.

This leader takes full ownership of the level of trust our team members hold for our data. They believe that listening is more important than speaking and seek to truly understand team members’ perspectives before introducing their own. They implement new processes and tools with excellence and educate users with both grace and accountability. Through their strategy and actions, our Head of Data Strategy instills trust and confidence in our decision-making at every level in the organization. 


Architectural Acumen  

The Head of Data Strategy leads and manages high-impact data implementations and restructures from conception through execution, establishing and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) to keep stakeholders informed and ensuring outcomes are aligned with strategic goals and delivered on time and within scope. They build a strong rapport with our technical teams and analysts embedded within product, engineering, and finance and can approach problems and opportunities from technical, financial, and operational mindsets themselves—with a strong bias toward finding solutions and creating win-win opportunities.

THE TALENTS YOU BRING.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with employees at all levels, including C-suite and board members.
  • Highly organized and disciplined, with experience streamlining systems and processes in software organizations post-M&A activity. 
  • Technical acumen and prior experience with data governance, data modeling, warehousing, and analytics processes, structure, and tools.
  • Experience with program management and exerting influential leadership across departments to achieve business goals. 
  • Strong project management and PMO skills. 
  • Significant attention to detail; no balls get dropped. 
  • Operating and consulting experience would be a major plus.
  • Experience operating in or working with a company our size in the growth stage (revenue, employees) with both B2B and B2C elements.
