POSITION SUMMARY

Since Axiom Space is a very complex work environment, we are looking for a resilient, high-energy Manager, Harnessing, who will be responsible for leading the design, development, qualification, and production support of electrical wiring harness systems for aerospace applications. This leader drives engineering excellence while ensuring process maturity across the full engineering lifecycle. They partner closely with internal program organizations like avionics, integration and test to understand their resource needs and constraints and deliver world-class engineering products.

The role manages a team of engineers and technicians, ensuring compliance with customer requirements, industry standards, safety regulations, and program schedules. The manager drives cross-functional collaboration with design, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to deliver reliable, cost-effective harness solutions. They oversee technical performance, risk management, process improvement, and resource planning throughout the product lifecycle. The ideal candidate combines strong aerospace electrical systems expertise with proven leadership and program execution skills.

This position blends people leadership with hands-on technical insight to advance an industry benchmark Harnessing organization.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Lead and manage the harness engineering team, providing technical direction, coaching, performance management, and career development.

·       Oversee the design, development, validation, and certification of aerospace electrical harness and interconnect systems.

·       Ensure all harness designs comply with customer requirements, aerospace regulations, industry standards, and company procedures

·       Drive execution of programs to meet cost, quality, schedule, and performance objectives.

·       Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and program management teams to support product development and production.

·       Review and approve harness architecture, schematics, wiring diagrams, routing plans, and technical documentation.

·       Lead risk identification, root cause analysis, and corrective action activities related to harness design and manufacturing issues.

·       Support prototype builds, qualification testing, first article inspections, and production readiness activities.

·       Manage engineering resources, workload planning, budgets, and project priorities across multiple programs.

·       Recruit, mentor, develop, and retain engineering talent while fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and collaboration.

·       Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product reliability, manufacturability, efficiency, and cost competitiveness.

·       Interface with customers, suppliers, and certification authorities to resolve technical issues and ensure successful program execution

·       Ensure compliance with company, customer, and aerospace industry requirements for safety, quality, reliability, and mission assurance.

·       Communicating project progress, status, and potential issues to stakeholders and leadership

·       Implementing and maintaining agile project management methodologies throughout the project lifecycle

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience

·       Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Networks, or a related technical discipline; Master’s degree preferred.

·       10+ years of progressively responsible engineering experience in aerospace, defense, space systems, or other high-reliability industries, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

·       3+ years of technical leadership or people management experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.

·       Experience supporting the design, development, qualification, and production of aerospace, spacecraft, avionics, or mission-critical harnesses.

·       Strong knowledge of applicable aerospace industry standards, customer requirements, and regulatory compliance practices.

·       Proven ability to lead technical reviews, risk assessments, failure investigations, and corrective action activities.

·       Track record of making things happen in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.

·       Uses good judgment to proactively solve complex technical and organizational challenges with positive business and program outcomes.

·       Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to meet tight deadlines while delivering high-quality results.

·       Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience interfacing effectively with customers, suppliers, executives, and cross-functional teams.

·       Experience mentoring, developing, and retaining engineering talent while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Requirements 

• This position may require access to export controlled technical data or technology subject to NASA regulations, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). In accordance with U.S. export control laws, final candidates may be required to undergo additional export control screening to determine eligibility for access. Meeting these requirements is a condition of employment.
