Purpose of Role
The Head of Data will lead Grosvenor’s enterprise data strategy, platform engineering capability, and the transition from Azure Synapse to Microsoft Fabric. This role is central to enabling the organisation to transform how it uses data through modern data engineering, trusted data products, and a Microsoft-first architecture.
This role will shape Grosvenor’s long‑term data strategy, architecture, governance model, and the evolution toward a high‑maturity, data‑driven organisation. The Head of Data will partner with business stakeholders and leaders to unlock measurable value from data and analytics.
Key Responsibilities
Data Leadership
Champion a data culture across Grosvenor, elevating maturity in data literacy, ownership, and usage.
Build strong partnerships across business teams, helping them identify opportunities to use data to transform operations, insight, and decision‑making.
Act as Grosvenor’s senior authority on data strategy architecture, data engineering and platform.
Data Platform, Engineering & Delivery
Own the enterprise data platform roadmap and architecture, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and business priorities.
Build and lead high‑performing data engineering teams responsible for ingestion, transformation, modelling, integration and platform operations.
Lead the migration from Azure Synapse to Microsoft Fabric, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum value uplift.
Ensure the platform supports both near‑real‑time and batch processing, governed self‑service analytics, AI/ML workloads, and enterprise reporting.
Embed modern engineering practices including CI/CD for data (DataOps), automated testing, orchestration, and monitoring of data pipelines.
Ensure engineering excellence in reliability, performance, observability and adherence to SLAs/SLOs.
Data Governance, Quality & Trust
Define and implement data governance frameworks covering ownership, stewardship, classification and lifecycle management.
Embed Microsoft Purview as the enterprise governance, cataloguing and quality management tool.
Ensure compliance with privacy, security and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR).
Drive organisation‑wide improvements in data quality, accuracy, timeliness and lineage transparency.
Business Partnering & Enablement
Work closely with executive stakeholders to understand business goals and translate them into data‑driven initiatives.
Provide expert guidance to business units on how best to use Fabric, Power BI, and modern analytics tools.
Partner with analysts, product teams and data scientists to provide the necessary capabilities, tooling and high‑quality data.
Build and scale self‑service data capabilities while maintaining governance and guardrails.
Ensure the data platform effectively supports analytics and AI initiatives across the organisation.
Operational Excellence
Define operational standards and ensure the platform is secure, reliable and continuously improving.
Oversee cost optimisation of the Microsoft data stack, with a particular focus on efficient use of Fabric capacity.
Manage suppliers and delivery partners, ensuring accountability and consistent execution.
Key Requirements
Technical Expertise
Deep expertise in Microsoft Fabric, Synapse, Power BI, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Azure SQL/Storage, and Purview.
Strong experience in modern data architectures.
Proven experience of platform migrations at scale (ideally Synapse to Fabric).
Expertise in DataOps, pipeline orchestration, metadata management, monitoring and automation.
Strong understanding of data governance, privacy, and security (including Data SecOps practices).
Leadership & Experience
Demonstrate a high level of experience in senior data leadership roles.
Proven ability to build and lead high‑performing technical teams, including offshore partners.
Demonstrable track record of shaping and delivering enterprise data strategies.
Strong stakeholder management skills, capable of influencing at all organisational levels.
Experience enabling business teams to adopt self‑service analytics and data products.
