A private family is seeking an experienced childcare and education professional who is genuinely loves working with children, is truly passionate about childcare and raising a well-rounded child to assume the role of Governess for their 11-year-old child. The primary focus of the role is the academic, emotional, and social development of the child.
The successful candidate will combine teaching expertise with childcare responsibilities, providing a structured, personalized, and development-focused learning environment within a private household. The role is multifaceted and requires a professional who can support the child’s education, personal growth, and overall well-being.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Governess will provide:

Educational Development Support

• Develop and implement personalized learning plans tailored to the child’s academic needs.
• Monitor academic progress and provide homework/project support.
• Encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and independent learning.
• Develop, implement, and monitor structured educational guidelines and study plans to ensure the child is adequately prepared for upcoming examinations.

Child Development and Welfare

• Ensure the child’s safety, well-being, and daily care needs.
• Provide emotional support and age-appropriate guidance.
• Consistently model exemplary behavior, values, and lifestyle practices to foster the child’s continuous positive development.
• Establish consistent routines, boundaries, and behavioral expectations.

Activity and Lifestyle Management

• Plan and coordinate age-appropriate educational and recreational activities.
• Promote healthy habits and balanced lifestyle choices.
• Manage the child’s daily schedule, appointments, and extracurricular activities.
• Assist with meal planning, grocery coordination, and supervision of meal routines.
• Oversee personal hygiene standards and organization of the child’s living and study spaces.

Household and Team Collaboration

• Work collaboratively with other household staff to maintain a harmonious and structured environment.
• Organize and participate in social, cultural, and developmental activities for the child.

Values and Cultural Alignment

• Respect and support the family’s values and religious practices.
• Be comfortable supporting Christian religious education within the child’s learning routine

Person Specification / Core Competencies

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• High level of professionalism, discretion, and adaptability.
• Ability to command respect while fostering independence and confidence in the child.
• Strong ethical standards, including strict confidentiality and respect for family privacy.
• Working knowledge of Montessori educational principles (required).
• Patience, reliability, flexibility, and proactive problem-solving skills.

Working Arrangements

• This is a full-time flexible (6 days a week, MON-SAT) role that requires availability during both school terms and holiday periods. 

Reporting and Performance Expectations

Prepare concise weekly progress reports highlighting:

• Developmental progress
• Learning patterns
• Emerging interests and behavioral observations

The successful candidate will be required to:

• Undergo comprehensive background and medical checks.
• Provide two verified professional references and one guarantor. 

Requirements
Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or HNd in Education, Child Development, Psychology, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of two (2) years experience caring for a child above the age of 10 within a family setting.
  • Proven experience developing structured learning and age-appropriate, Montessori inspired activities. 

Additional Requirements

• Flexibility to adjust schedule during school holidays.
• Must be available for Live-in arrangements, when necessary, with accommodation provided by the employer. 
• Must be willing and available to travel



Benefits
Salary and Benefits

• A monthly salary of ₦250k to ₦300k per month, depending on experience.
• Employer-sponsored continuing professional development programs, subject to role requirements
• Fifteen (15) working days paid annual leave.
• Bonus applicable based on performance.



Skills Required

  • Bachelor's Degree or HND in Education, Child Development, Psychology, or related discipline.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience caring for a child above age 10 within a family setting.
  • Proven experience developing structured learning plans and Montessori-inspired activities.
  • Working knowledge of Montessori educational principles.
  • Availability 6 days a week (Mon-Sat), during school terms and holiday periods; flexibility to adjust schedule.
  • Willingness to live-in when necessary (employer provides accommodation).
  • Willingness and availability to travel.
  • Undergo comprehensive background and medical checks; provide two verified professional references and one guarantor.
  • Comfortable supporting Christian religious education and respecting family values and practices.
