Group Summary:
The Magna Exteriors portfolio of products includes access systems such as liftgates, exterior trim, modular systems, front-end modules including fascia, active aerodynamic systems and other lightweight structural components for automotive, commercial truck and other industrial markets.

Job Responsibilities:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Global Technical Manager (GTM) is responsible for the conceptualization, development, planning, directing, and controlling activities within a specific product area and/or program. The GTM is the subject matter expert as pertains to product architecture, application, capability, and future needs. The GTM leads product engineering, design, and development activities to ensure requirements, program objectives and company/division needs are satisfied.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Defines product architecture and design solutions to business pursuit team for quoting
  • Provides customer product requirements and specifications guidance to team members and supports resolution of conflicts and issues
  • Lead pre-award product development activities and analysis (internally and externally)
  • Provides supervision and technical guidance to project or activity team members
  • Communicates development goals and timing to engineering and design staff
  • May initiate and approve design/engineering changes and studies
  • Working with the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) supports documentation and communication of lessons-learned and best practices to engineering and design organization
  • Supports the development and maintenance of product strategy and supporting technology roadmaps
  • Supports the development and maintenance of literature and presentation materials to promote product offerings
  • Provides product technical guidance to program teams to ensure successful manufacturing launch of new products
  • Identifies and promotes the best-in-class dimensional strategy. Lead activity to improve methodology to Part tuning.
  • Identifies and promotes continuous improvement of products, processes, and systems.
  • Identify and communicate market trends and significant changes to regulations
  • Working with the SMEs, supports understanding of vehicle legislation and regulations (FMVSS) or OEM Component/System Requirements that apply to product area of responsibility. Determine and apply these Standards as required to our Product Designs.
  • May coordinate / monitor completion of the CAE/FEA execution and accuracy during the product pre-development stage.
  • Maintains an awareness and understanding of competitor capabilities and market position
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with internal and external customers
  • Working with legal, helps to understand existing IP within target commodities and/or define IP opportunities for new products / processes.
  • Manages cost and timing of Platform / Core Engineering projects
  • Adherence to Magna's Corporate Constitution, Employee Charter, Code of Conduct, etc.

Education/Special Knowledge - BS in engineering or technical education applicable to exteriors product development
Experience - 10+ years of closures engineering development. Plastic products experience preferred. Experience supervising or managing technical personnel. Excellent communication skills and experience working with global teams.
Physical Demands/Work Environment - Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer, may require local, domestic and international travel.
Travel - less than 25% (domestic & international)
