Job Description:

The Global Head of Tax is responsible for defining and executing the Group's global tax strategy, ensuring that tax governance, compliance, transfer pricing, indirect taxation, tax accounting, and tax risk management support the Group's commercial objectives while maintaining the highest standards of integrity and regulatory compliance.

The role acts as a strategic business partner to executive management, traders, finance, treasury, legal, operations, and M&A teams, providing proactive advice on tax implications of business activities, acquisitions, financings, investments, restructurings, and new market opportunities.

The Global Head of Tax leads a globally distributed tax organization and drives the modernization of tax processes, systems, and controls to support a scalable, technology-enabled tax function.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and implement the Group's global tax strategy aligned with business and shareholder objectives.

  • Serve as the primary tax advisor to the Executive Leadership Team and senior management.

  • Ensure tax considerations are integrated into strategic business decisions from inception.

  • Lead and develop a high-performing global tax organization and talent pipeline.

  • Promote a culture of compliance, commerciality, continuous improvement, and innovation.

Corporate Tax & International Tax

  • Oversee all direct tax matters across the Group's global operations.

  • Manage international tax planning, financing structures, holding structures, and cross-border transactions.

  • Ensure appropriate governance around permanent establishment, withholding tax, and corporate income tax matters.

  • Monitor and assess the impact of evolving international tax regulations, including OECD initiatives, BEPS, and Pillar Two.

Transfer Pricing

  • Own the Group's transfer pricing framework and global transfer pricing strategy.

  • Ensure transfer pricing policies remain aligned with business operations and OECD guidelines.

  • Oversee preparation and maintenance of Master Files, Local Files, country-by-country reporting, and benchmarking studies.

  • Manage transfer pricing audits, disputes, and advance pricing arrangements where appropriate.

Indirect Tax & Customs

  • Oversee VAT, GST, sales tax, excise, customs duties, and other indirect taxes globally.

  • Support business operations and trading activities by providing practical, commercially focused advice.

  • Ensure effective management of indirect tax risks arising from complex international trading flows.

  • Drive automation and process improvements in indirect tax determination and reporting.

Tax Accounting & Reporting

  • Oversee income tax accounting and reporting under IFRS.

  • Ensure accurate and timely tax provisions, deferred tax calculations, effective tax rate analysis, and tax disclosures.

  • Partner with Controlling and Accounting teams on quarterly and annual reporting requirements.

  • Ensure readiness for external audits and regulatory reviews.

Tax Risk, Governance & Compliance

  • Establish and maintain the Group's tax governance framework.

  • Ensure timely and accurate compliance with all filing and reporting obligations globally.

  • Oversee management of tax audits, disputes, investigations, and regulatory reviews.

  • Maintain appropriate internal controls over tax processes and reporting.

M&A, Projects & Business Advisory

  • Provide tax structuring advice on acquisitions, divestments, joint ventures, and investments.

  • Support new business initiatives, trading strategies, and geographical expansion projects.

  • Advise on tax implications of corporate finance, treasury, and financing transactions.

  • Partner with Legal and Finance teams to optimize business structures while maintaining compliance.

Tax Technology & Transformation

  • Lead the digital transformation of the tax function.

  • Drive adoption of automation, ERP-integrated tax solutions, AI-enabled tax analytics, and advanced reporting capabilities.

  • Establish data governance and reporting standards supporting real-time tax insight and risk monitoring.

  • Ensure the tax function remains fit for future regulatory and technological developments.

Profile

  • Master's Degree in Tax Law, Economics, Accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • Professional tax qualification preferred (CTA, Swiss Tax Expert, CPA, ACA, equivalent).

  • 15+ years of international tax experience.

  • Significant experience within commodity trading, energy, shipping, financial services, or a similarly complex multinational environment.

  • Prior leadership responsibility for a global tax function.

  • Strong experience managing transfer pricing, corporate tax, indirect tax, and tax accounting matters.

  • Demonstrated success in leading tax transformation and technology initiatives.

  • Deep knowledge of IFRS tax reporting.

  • Strong understanding of OECD Transfer Pricing Guidelines.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of BEPS and Pillar Two requirements.

  • Experience with ERP environments (Oracle, SAP, or equivalent).

  • Strong analytical and project management capabilities.

  • Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen.

  • Influential stakeholder manager capable of engaging at Board and Executive Committee level.

  • Pragmatic decision-maker with balanced risk judgement.

  • Strong communicator capable of translating complex technical issues into business language.

  • Change leader with a track record of building and transforming global teams.
