Job Description:
This role is for a Global Financial Crimes (GFC) Specialist on the Institutional Surveillance team, which is part of the broader Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) – Surveillance team. The Institutional Surveillance team is responsible for identifying and mitigating new and emerging financial crime and money laundering risks across institutional clients, products and services. The team uses research and data analytics to build and execute manual surveillance routines to detect potential suspicious activity and create referrals to Financial Crimes Investigations (FCI).
Responsibilities:
- Support the development and maintenance of financial crimes owned policies and standards, and reviews relevant Front Line Units/Control Functions-owned policies and standards to ensure that regulatory requirements and operational risks are appropriately addressed
- Assist in the production of independent financial crimes risk management reporting
- Monitor changes in regulations applicable to Global Financial Crimes, including advising business leaders, directing the appropriate areas to implement or amend policies, standards, procedures and/or processes to address regulatory requirements, and challenging the implementation plan as needed
- Contribute to risk coverage plans
- Identify trends, anomalies or emerging risks
- Build and execute manual surveillance routines to address identified risks
- Execute independent risk monitoring, testing, and risk assessments
- Escalate financial crimes related risks and issues to appropriate governance routines and management/board level committees
- Analyze and monitor institutional clients and related products and services to detect potential financial crime risks
- Generates case referrals to FCI
- Partner and collaborate with FIU – Detection, FCI, GCOR, Legal, and other business partners and stakeholders to ensure complex and/or emerging threats are effectively addressed, including providing guidance on long-term model/automated detection solutions
- Stay current on money laundering typologies and trends, and their red flags
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of Anti-Money Laundering experience in banking, law enforcement, intelligence, government or military
- Degree required: Bachelor’s or equivalent experience
- Understanding of Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), OFAC, and other regulatory requirements governing financial crimes activities
- Understanding of markets or institutional related products and services
- Demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise, and well-organized written analyses, including investigative summaries, white papers, and executive-level communications
- Candidates will be required to complete a writing assessment demonstrating their ability to analyze information and prepare a clear, professional written summary.
- Must be a self-motivated person who is comfortable working effectively with varying levels of guidance
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Products

- Law enforcement background or similar experience at a government agency
- Adept at SQL, Python, Tableau, or have a strong desire to learn
