The Role

Summary: The Glass Operations Manager oversees manufacturing operations related to the fabrication, finishing, final assembly, and shipping of all products. This position requires a strong background in production management, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven track record of optimizing processes to achieve efficiency and quality targets. This individual plays a key role in ensuring the timely and cost-effective production of high-quality goods while maintaining a safe and productive work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Production Planning and Scheduling:

  • Oversee daily floor operations and work to achieve target completion dates within each department in support of overall OTD adherence.
  • Implement Lean Manufacturing, and train and develop associates in these principles.
  • Develop and implement production plans to meet customer demand and delivery timelines.
  • Coordinate with various departments to ensure efficient scheduling of resources, including manpower, equipment, and materials.
  • Monitor and adjust production operations and processes as needed to respond to changing demands.

Quality Assurance:

  • Implement and maintain quality control processes to ensure the production of high-quality products that meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Work closely with the Quality Management to identify and address any issues related to product quality.
  • Facilitate accurate, complete, and timely root cause analysis and identification of proper long and short-term corrective actions related to production quality escapes

Resource Management:

  • Oversee the allocation of resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials, to optimize production efficiency.
  • Optimize productive time for employees by eliminating unnecessary processes.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings.

Team Leadership:

  • Interview and hire employees.
  • Lead and motivate a diverse team of production staff, providing clear direction and support to achieve production goals.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that encourages continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Practice conflict resolution among departments and employees.

Health and Safety:

  • Enforce and promote a culture of safety in the production environment.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and implement measures to reduce workplace accidents and incidents.
  • Follow and adhere to all state, federal and company enforced safety rules and regulations.

Budget Management:

  • Prepare operating reports and budgets.
  • Report and track expenses to reduce costs.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement measures to control production costs.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Analyze production metrics and data to determine areas to improve.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production processes, reduce waste, and increase overall efficiency.
  • Implement best practices and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Manage employee suggestion program by soliciting ideas for continuous improvement and facilitating timely implementation of selected actions.
  • Maintain up-to-date standard operating procedure (SOP) and work instruction documentation for every production process throughout the production floor.
  • Facilitate frequent inspections and audits of work processes.

Authority: Follows direction of the Glass Plant Director. Makes independent decisions and recommends changes that affect quality, staffing, and production processes consistent with assigned duties.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in operations, engineering or related field.
  • Proven experience in production management or a similar role.
  • Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma.
  • Excellent leadership, team building, conflict-resolution, and management skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel) and Google G-Suite (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets)
  • Experience with MRP/ERP System transactions
  • Strict adherence to company standards and safety procedures.
  • Proficient in Root Case Analysis.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Project Management Skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

Physical Demands

Amount of time:

  • Sit - 2/3
  • Walk/stand - 1/3

Required physical strength:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. Occasionally.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Occasionally.
  • Must be able to work on your feet including, standing and walking.
  • Must be able to work in and around production equipment, which includes occasionally climbing stairs, ladders, bending, stooping, standing, walking, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Must be able to see / hear to visually and audibly acknowledge critical safety instructions, alarms, forklift traffic, perform quality inspections, and equipment inspections
