As a Sanctions Screening Officer at JPMorganChase within Global Financial Crimes Compliance, you will provide sanctions compliance support across international and domestic clients, products, and complex multinational structures. You will assess and apply sanctions requirements across multiple jurisdictions, including Swiss sanctions (State Secretariat for Economic Affairs embargo regime) and, where applicable due to nexus or policy, U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control and European Union/United Kingdom restrictive measures. You will be a subject matter expert and advisor to stakeholders, supporting robust governance, effective escalation, and high-quality documentation. You will play a key role in client list screening by investigating alerts, making risk-based determinations, and driving continuous improvement of screening effectiveness.
Job responsibilities
- Review, investigate, and disposition client list screening alerts using a risk-based approach and defined procedures.
- Determine true and false matches through structured analysis, research, and documentation of rationale and supporting evidence.
- Coordinate escalations and decisions with stakeholders across the business, Compliance, Legal, and Risk, ensuring appropriate challenge, approvals, and recordkeeping.
- Provide sanctions advisory guidance on JPMorganChase sanctions policy and the associated sanctions control framework, tailored to the facts, nexus, and jurisdictional requirements.
- Conduct sanctions compliance investigations, reviews, and risk assessments, and deliver timely, well-supported recommendations.
- Support the operational effectiveness of screening systems by identifying issues, addressing data quality and matching challenges, and participating in tuning, testing, and change initiatives as applicable.
- Prepare correspondence and support reporting to relevant Swiss authorities when required (for example, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs).
- Ensure cases are documented end-to-end in the case management system within required timelines and quality standards.
- Implement and monitor blocking and restrictive controls on client relationships, assets, transactions, and securities, maintaining appropriate governance and audit trail.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to make time-sensitive assessments and clearly explain outcomes to senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to structure, execute, and document investigations end-to-end to high quality standards.
- Experience handling screening alerts and working within case management workflows, including applying escalation protocols.
- Strong understanding of the Swiss sanctions framework, including the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs embargo regime, and the ability to assess multi-jurisdictional requirements.
- Ability to partner effectively with business counterparts to obtain information related to client activity and product or transaction flows.
- Experience engaging with Legal, Audit, and/or Risk partners to drive consistent interpretation of requirements and effective challenge.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
- Comfort engaging on screening-system topics such as matching logic concepts, data quality issues, and operational controls, with interest in using automation to improve effectiveness.
