The Role
We're looking for smart, energetic engineers excited about the potential of Generative AI to join our team and help us integrate AI into real tools that make a difference.
You don’t need deep AI or ML experience — just a strong foundation in programming, a curious mind, and a desire to learn fast and build things. You’ll be working closely with other engineers and product teams to bring Gen AI to life across our systems and workflows.
Role
- Build and integrate Gen AI features using APIs (OpenAI, Claude, etc.)
- Prototype quickly and ship internal tools and automations
- Use tools like Cursor, Copilot, and ChatGPT to enhance your workflow
- Work with product and domain experts to solve real user problems with AI
- Stay up to date with Gen AI trends and bring new ideas to the table
- Use TDD (Test Driven Development) to ship code that is maintainable and which stay bug free
Resposibilities
- Are smart, energetic, and love figuring things out
- Have 2–5 years of software engineering experience or equivalent self-taught work
- Have strong programming and problem-solving skills
- Are either fluent in Python or confident you can pick it up quickly
- Are curious about AI and how it can be practically applied
- Love working on small, fast-moving teams where you can own your work
Nice-to-Have
- You've built something using OpenAI/Anthropic APIs, LangChain, or similar
- Experience with internal tools platforms, automation, or scripting
- You've used dev tools like Cursor, Replit, or other AI coding assistants
- Side projects, hackathons, or a GitHub that shows off your builder mindset

Our story
OakNorth Bank was built on the foundations of frustrations with old-school banking. In 2005, when our founders tried to get capital for their data analytics company, the computer said ‘no’. Unfortunately, all major banks in the UK were using the same computer – and it was broken.
Why was it so difficult for a profitable business with impressive cashflow, retained clients, and clear commercial success to get a loan?
The industry was backward-looking and too focused on historic financials, rather than future potential.
