Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is hiring Light Stringers for our Gardens Aglow light show!

The Light Stringers are responsible for all aspects of installing lights for Gardens Aglow. The Boom Lift Light Stringers are responsible for the operation of a boom lift to install lights for the Gardens Aglow light show.    

These are seasonal positions (September 1 – January 2), with Full-time hours (up to 40 hours per week) available.  

Gardens Aglow Boom Lift Light Stringer

Starting pay $20.00 hourly, non-exempt 

Gardens Aglow Light Stringer

Starting pay $18.75 hourly, non-exempt 

Seasonal employees receive personal and sick paid time off, paid holidays, discounts in our culinary and Gardenshop programs, and a Gardens membership.   

Light stringing occurs September through mid-November, primarily weekdays, full-time hours; occasional weekend days required. Additional Gardens Aglow duties occur Thursday through Sunday evenings, plus daily mid-November through January 2.   

Primary Functions:

  • String lights in trees, shrubs, along paths, and structures according to provided training and design plan.  
  • For Boom Lift Light Stringer only: Safely operate and use 55’ to 80’ boom lifts. Navigate boom lifts on narrow and sometimes uneven garden pathways.   
  • Report progress and problems to the Gardens Aglow Program Manager.  
  • Remove lights and assist with organization of light storage after event closure.  
  • Work in one or more positions during Gardens Aglow (e.g., traffic, admissions).  
  • Participate in Gardens-wide initiatives as needed (e.g., Gardens Aglow assignments, special events).  

Physical Requirements:

This position has very high physical demands. Most of the time will be spent outdoors in a variety of conditions (hot sun, rain, cold temperatures, etc.). The maximum load employee will be required to lift/carry is 50 lbs. Gloves, hand and foot warmers are provided.    

Requirements

  • Ability to follow oral instructions and read schematic plans.  
  • Ability to learn different lighting techniques and execute them.  
  • Ability to carry, move, install, and stabilize ladders up to 10 feet without assistance.  
  • Ability to climb, reach, and work comfortably from a ladder up to 10 feet.  
  • Ability to set up and safely use adjustable work platforms.  
  • Experience operating and working in a boom lift is a plus, we will train you on our lifts regardless.    
  • Ability to work quickly and steadily for an eight-hour workday.   
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
