The Smart Machines, Motion and Robotics (SMR) System Applications group are currently seeking an energetic and motivated System Applications Engineer to join our dynamic team in Limerick focused on innovating cutting edge industrial robotic solutions. The SMR team, who are responsible for the expansion of ADI globally in the area of fixed robots, mobile robots, humanoids, and outdoor robots, have identified the need for a system applications engineer to work on system level designs and developments in the robotics application space. An engineer will develop a deep understanding of robotics and will serve as a domain expert for customers, field sales team and other technology groups within ADI. 

 

Responsibilities include, but not limited to: 

  • Design and evaluation of hardware and software reference designs and released modules for use by both internal and external stakeholders in the robotics application space. 

  • Design and development of system level demonstrators to showcase ADI’s value proposition at major industrial trade shows. 

  • Collaborate with a larger development team of hardware, software, AI, sales and marketing engineers. 

  • Conduct proof of concept experiments on robotic use cases for existing and emerging ADI products and technology, including experiment definition, setup, measurement and documentation.  

  • Assist in development of external facing collateral (e.g. webinars, application notes, technical articles) to promote ADI technology in robotic applications. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define specifications for next-generation integrated circuit (IC) products, system solutions and PCB designs that meet the requirements of the robotics industry. 

  • Interface with customers and internal sales team, serving as a domain expert for ADI technology in industrial robotics 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Minimum Bachelors of Engineering/Science program in Electronic Engineering or Computer Science/Engineering. 

  • Core electronics fundamentals in both analog and digital domains. 

  • Familiarity with Python and embedded development with C/C++/C#, or similar programming languages. 

  • Hardware debugging skills including the use of measurement and test equipment (DMM, oscilloscopes, signal generators, etc) 

  • Familiarity with some embedded serial communications (SPI, I2C, UART, USB) and wireless protocols (MQTT, Bluetooth, Zigbee, WiFi) 

  • Keen interest in technology for robotics, motion control and perception sensors. 

  • Good communication, organization, and technical skills who works well in a global, multi-disciplinary team. 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to develop and articulate system requirements as part of a broader strategy. 

  • Self-motivated individual who is driven to continually improve and is a natural problem solver.  

 

Desirable Skills:  

  • Familiarity with Robot Operating System (ROS1/2) middleware software suite. 

  • Experience with vision and perception sensors for robotics such as RGB, RGB-D cameras or IMUs. 

  • Knowledge of edge AI/ML concepts, frameworks (GANs, LLMs, CNNs) and APIs such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras. 

  • Knowledge of motion control principles. 

  • Experience with circuit design that includes analog, power, sensor and microcontroller components. 

  • Interest in mechanical design and 3D modelling with mechanical design software packages such as Solidworks.
