About This Job
The FVP, Project Management Office (PMO), is a highly visible leadership role responsible for driving the execution of the PMO’s vision and strategy, overseeing the enterprise project portfolio, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals. The FVP provides operational oversight, champions process excellence, and fosters a culture of continuous improvement and accountability. In addition to managing and developing a high-performing team, this role plays a critical part in advancing key strategic and operational initiatives that support Axos’s growth and transformation. The FVP acts as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, enabling the PMO to deliver maximum value across the organization.This position is on-site and located at our HQ in San Diego, CA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Portfolio Management: Assists the SVP of the EPMO in leading the governance, prioritization, and execution of the IT project portfolio, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- PMO Oversight & Process Standardization: Assists the SVP of the EPMO in establishing and enforcing standardized project management methodologies, frameworks, and reporting structures to drive efficiency.
- Team Leadership & Development: Directly manages and mentors program managers, project managers, and associate project managers, fostering professional growth and high performance.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration: Works closely with key technology, product, and business partners to ensure project success.
- Risk & Issue Management: Identifies, mitigates, and escalates project risks and issues to maintain smooth execution and minimize disruptions.
- Financial & Resource Management: Oversees project budgets, resource allocation, and vendor relationships to maximize cost-effectiveness and operational performance.
- Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Develops key performance indicators (KPIs) and reporting mechanisms to measure project success and PMO effectiveness.
- Governance & Compliance: Ensures that all projects adhere to regulatory, security, and compliance requirements in a healthcare environment.
- Continuous Improvement & Innovation: Implements best practices, drives process enhancements, and introduces new tools to optimize project delivery and execution.
- PMO Strategy & Vision: Partners closely with the SVP, PMO to shape and execute the PMO strategy and vision.
- Leadership & Mentorship: Provides leadership and guidance to project managers and program leads, serving as a mentor and escalation point.
- Portfolio Planning & Resource Allocation: Supports strategic planning, prioritization, and resource allocation across the enterprise portfolio.
- Enterprise Initiatives: Leads cross-functional, high-profile, and complex initiatives that advance Axos’s strategic or operational goals.
- Process Improvement: Drives process improvements to increase efficiency, quality, and transparency of project execution.
- Executive Representation: Represents the PMO in executive meetings, steering committees, and key stakeholder discussions as needed.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitors and reports on portfolio health, project performance metrics, and risk management to senior leadership.
- Talent Development: Supports talent development within the PMO, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and professional growth.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Acts as a key liaison between business units, technology teams, and executive leadership to ensure alignment on project objectives and outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science, business, logistics or related field
- 10+ years' of Senior Management PMO experience with implementation in complex environments
- Proven track record of successfully leading large-scale, cross-functional projects and portfolios
- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g., PMI, Agile, Lean) and tools
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to influence at all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop high-performing teams
- Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
