Functional Test Planning

We are looking for a Functional Test Planner to lead and execute the functional testing process across software development projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for analyzing requirements, designing comprehensive test plans, and ensuring that applications meet functional specifications and user expectations. This role requires a detail-oriented mindset with strong analytical and documentation skills, and hands-on experience in test execution and defect management.

Key Responsibilities:

Test Planning and Design

• Develop comprehensive Functional Test Plans based on business requirements, functional specifications, and system design documents.

• Define test objectives, scope, strategies, resources, schedules, and entry/exit criteria.

• Create and maintain detailed test cases, test scripts, and test data aligned to functional requirements.

• Coordinate with Business Analysts, Developers, and Product Owners to clarify requirements and acceptance criteria.

Test Execution

• Execute manual or automated functional test cases across various platforms (web, mobile, API, desktop, etc.).

• Document and track test results and coverage metrics.

• Log, manage, and retest defects using tools such as JIRA, ALM, Azure DevOps, or Bugzilla.

• Validate functionality across regression, integration, user acceptance, and system testing phases.

Stakeholder Communication and Coordination

• Participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, test review sessions, and defect triages.

• Provide clear and timely test progress reports, risk assessments, and test sign-off documents.

• Collaborate with development and UAT teams to ensure timely defect resolution and smooth test cycle completion.

Process Improvement and Compliance

• Adhere to quality assurance and SDLC standards (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid).

• Contribute to continuous improvement of test processes, documentation, and test automation strategies.

• Ensure compliance with regulatory, data privacy, and internal QA standards.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

• 3+ years of experience in functional testing or quality assurance roles.

• Strong knowledge of test planning, test case design, test execution, and defect lifecycle.

• Hands-on experience with test management tools (e.g., JIRA, Zephyr, HP ALM, TestRail).

• Familiarity with SDLC and STLC methodologies including Agile and Waterfall.

• Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• ISTQB Foundation Level Certification or equivalent.

• Experience with test automation tools (e.g., Selenium, Katalon, UFT) is a plus.

• Understanding of API testing using tools like Postman or SoapUI.

• Experience in domain-specific testing (e.g., finance, healthcare, e-commerce).
