Full Stack Engineer (Front-end Focus)

ZOE is a gut health science company. We turn world-leading nutrition research into everyday products that help people feel healthier, including the ZOE app, our at-home Gut Health Test, Daily30+ and the Gut Health Bar. Our scientists run the largest nutrition study in the world, and the ZOE Science & Nutrition podcast is one of the most listened-to health podcasts in the UK. Our mission is to transform the health of millions by giving them the most advanced science and technology.

Our Engineering team sits at the heart of that mission. We're a distributed team of around 40 people across the UK and EU, and we like solving complex problems together. We bring a wide mix of skills, from front-end, back-end, full-stack and mobile engineering to machine learning, data science and analytics, to build the experiences that guide our members through their health journey.

Collaboration is core to how we work. Engineers at ZOE partner closely with data scientists, analysts, product managers and product designers to bring new ideas to life. Depending on the project, we also work with marketing, finance, legal and other teams, so the work is highly cross-functional and impactful.

We're looking for a Full Stack Engineer with a front-end focus to help us build world-class digital experiences. ZOE runs a full-stack environment, but this role is for someone who loves crafting seamless, performant, responsive and beautiful user interfaces.

Your main focus will be zoe.com, the place where people discover ZOE, learn about our science and join as members or buy our products. Your work will directly shape how millions of people first experience ZOE, and you'll see its impact in the data.

You'll spend most of your time in TypeScript, React and Next.js. You'll also work in our backend services (Kotlin or Python) to make sure the data you need is available, well structured and delivered efficiently. You'll help shape and grow our web design system with design and engineering, and you'll launch A/B tests and work with analysts to understand the results.

• Frontend: TypeScript, React, Next.js, React Native, GraphQL

• Backend: Kotlin / Spring Boot, Python / FastAPI and Django

• Tools: Google Tag Manager, [CMS name, e.g. DatoCMS], Optimizely, Google Pub/Sub, Grafana, Firebase Auth

• CI/CD: ArgoCD, GitHub Actions

• Data: web data layer, dbt, BigQuery, Airflow

• Infrastructure: GCP, Kubernetes, Terraform, Vercel

• Building zoe.com: developing a fast, accessible and beautiful website that is consistently on-brand.

• Design partnership: working closely with UX designers to turn high-fidelity designs into fluid, accessible and performant components.

• Design system: contributing to and helping grow our shared component library and web design system.

• Experimentation: launching A/B tests and working with analysts to interpret results and improve the user journey.

• Bridging the stack: collaborating on API design and implementing backend changes where new front-end features need them.

• Engineering excellence: writing clean, testable, maintainable code and shipping to production regularly, ideally daily.

• Growth: learning from and working alongside senior engineers, sharing knowledge with others, and growing into a technical owner of parts of our web platform.

• Have 3–5 years of professional software development experience, with a strong focus on front-end.

• Have strong experience with TypeScript, React and Next.js, and understand state management, hooks and web performance optimisation.

• Have working knowledge of a backend language (such as Python, Kotlin or Java) and feel comfortable navigating an API or database schema.

• Are a pragmatic engineer who prefers simple, maintainable solutions to clever over-engineering.

• Enjoy collaborative, cross-functional work and care about the "why" behind a feature as much as the "how."

• Experience building or contributing to a design system or shared component library

• Experience with A/B testing and experimentation tools (e.g. Optimizely)

• Good understanding of accessibility (WCAG)

• Experience with GraphQL

• Production experience with Kotlin or Python
