Role Overview
As a Back-End Engineer at Ontinue, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining the services, APIs, and data platforms that power the ION MXDR platform. You will work closely with front-end engineers, product managers, security experts, and data engineers to build scalable, resilient, and secure cloud-native systems that support real-time security operations and customer-facing capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance back-end services for the ION MXDR platform.
- Build and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices that support platform functionality, integrations, and customer experiences.
- Develop and optimize data processing pipelines for security telemetry, threat intelligence, and operational analytics.
- Collaborate with front-end engineers to deliver reliable end-to-end platform capabilities.
- Design and implement cloud-native architectures leveraging Azure services and modern engineering practices.
- Ensure system reliability, observability, and performance through monitoring, logging, tracing, and automated alerting.
- Optimize database schemas, queries, and storage strategies to support large-scale security data workloads.
- Implement secure coding practices and contribute to platform security, compliance, and resilience initiatives.
- Participate in architecture discussions, technical design reviews, and code reviews.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and deployment processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues while maintaining high availability and service reliability.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, cloud-native patterns, cybersecurity trends, and software engineering best practices.
Required Experience & Skills
Required
- Experience: 5+ years of professional back-end software development experience.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in C# and .NET development.
- Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and microservices architectures.
- Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, scalability, performance optimization, and reliability engineering.
- Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases, including schema design and query optimization.
- Experience with event-driven architectures, messaging technologies, and event sourcing / CQRS patterns.
- Experience implementing automated testing, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
- Proficiency with version control systems and modern software development workflows (Git).
- Strong understanding of secure software development practices and API security principles.
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices and tools.
- Experience with observability platforms, monitoring solutions, and operational analytics.
Preferred
- Experience with Azure-native services including Azure Service Bus, Azure Functions, Azure App Services, Application Gateway, Azure Storage, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Cache for Redis, Azure Key Vault, Managed Identities, Entra ID.
- Experience with GitHub, GitHub Actions, Jira, Confluence, Terraform.
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS architectures and complex enterprise customer hierarchies.
- Experience designing and securing RESTful APIs and Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) layers behind Azure APIM and Front Door.
- Experience with Azure Cosmos DB (data modeling, partition keys, Change Feed triggers) and NoSQL persistence.
- Familiarity with distributed tracing, logging, and observability tools (Azure Application Insights, ADX / Kusto).
- Good understanding of Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), OAuth 2.0 / JWT security, Managed Identities, and role-based access control (RBAC).
- Experience processing large-scale telemetry, log, or security event data.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with Microsoft security technologies such as Microsoft Sentinel and Microsoft Defender.
- Domain background in SecOps, MDR/XDR, or security incident management workflows.
- Experience integrating with Microsoft Sentinel, Defender XDR, or Microsoft Graph APIs.

- Experience monitoring and responding to alerts and issues, including on-call support
- Microsoft Azure Developer certification and experience designing and developing Azure Integration Services solutions
- Understanding of GraphQL, event-driven architecture schemas, API metadata, and Swagger discovery
- Experience with Power Virtual Agent and Bot Framework
- AZ-204 Microsoft certification
- Knowledge of Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Sentinel
- Experience with Microsoft Active Directory and Azure AD
- Understanding of Azure DevOps and GitHub Enterprise
