Full Stack Developer I/II

Role Summary: 

Specter Aerospace is seeking a full-time Full Stack Developer I/II to build and maintain the software, data pipelines, and server infrastructure connecting our engine test facility's control systems, databases, and user interfaces. In this role, you will own the flow of test and telemetry data — from acquisition through storage, processing, and visualization — working at the intersection of software, controls, and propulsion engineering. You will support and extend existing PLC, database, and front-end systems without replacing the responsibilities of dedicated front-end or PLC/controls engineers.

Specter Aerospace is building the next generation of hypersonic vehicles for U.S. Forces and Allies. With offices in Boston and Peabody, MA, Specter leverages its advanced propulsion technologies, manufacturing, and testing capabilities to rapidly develop supersonic and hypersonic systems. This open application will be reviewed for roles based in any/all of our offices. Funded by a mix of government R&D organizations and private funding, Specter is expanding its team in preparation for flight testing and full-scale production.

Role Responsibilities 

• Design, build, and maintain software that moves data between PLC/control systems, data servers, databases, and user-facing applications 

• Develop and maintain data pipelines that reliably capture, store, and process engine and facility test data, both in real time and post-test 

• Administer and maintain data servers and related infrastructure supporting test facility operations, including backups, access control, and uptime 

• Develop Python code to post-process, analyze, and visualize engine and test data 

• Work with controls and propulsion engineers to define data flows, software interfaces, and system requirements across the full test data lifecycle 

• Build and maintain dashboards and tools used to monitor facility operations and review engineering data 

• Develop and execute testing protocols for software shakedown, debugging, and validation 

• Own assigned projects end to end — from design and implementation through testing, deployment, and documentation 

• Participate in technical meetings and contribute to architecture decisions on data systems and infrastructure 

Required Qualifications: 

• Bachelor's degree in computer science/engineering, data science, or an equivalent field 

• Solid grasp of fundamental software development principles and object-oriented programming 

• Experience programming in Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or a comparable language 

• Experience with databases, APIs, data processing, or full-stack application development 

• Familiarity with server administration, data infrastructure, or systems integration 

• Familiarity with user-interface design and data visualization 

• Experience with software testing, debugging, and technical documentation 

• Comfort working independently in a fast-paced environment with changing requirements 

• Strong collaborative skills and a drive to produce high-quality, production-ready work 

• Eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required 

• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Professional experience building or maintaining data pipelines or server infrastructure 

• Experience using Python to post-process, analyze, or visualize engineering data 

• Experience storing, processing, or visualizing large, high-rate datasets 

• Experience developing front-end applications using JavaScript, TypeScript, React, or a comparable framework 

• Experience developing back-end services, APIs, or data servers using Python, Node.js, or similar technologies 

• Experience integrating software applications with PLCs, databases, or data servers 

• Familiarity with time-series databases such as InfluxDB, relational databases, or industrial data systems such as SCADA 

• Comfort writing technical documentation regarding code, system integration, and data infrastructure
