Frontend Engineering Manager
Join us and build a streaming platform used by millions.
At Sky Czech Republic, we’re building the tech backbone that powers some of the world’s biggest streaming services. Ever heard of Peacock in the U.S., Showmax in Africa, or Sky Showtime in the Czech Republic? They all run on our global streaming platform—a kind of technological skeleton where each service plugs in its own content and branding. Our platform serves millions of users worldwide. Just to give you an idea—Peacock alone has more than 40 million users in the USA. Thousands of engineers globally are shaping this platform, and our Prague tech hub is a key part of that effort. But we don’t just keep the engine running—we push the tech boundaries of what’s possible, alongside teams from Lisbon, London, and New York. Here in Prague, we have teams specializing in front-end development (including mobile, TV, and web), back-end development (Java), DevOps & Platform Engineering, Video Software Engineering, and data science.
What is the plot?
Global Apps Engineering is responsible for delivering seamless, high-quality frontend experiences across our global streaming platforms—including Peacock, SkyShowtime, Showmax, NOW, and WOW. Our team focuses on enhancing the Web player experience across various playback types, from live channels and events to on-demand content. We are reimagining playback functionality and optimizing features such as bookmarking, binge-watching, and accessibility by integrating third-party libraries and collaborating with cross-functional teams across Europe. With team members based in London, Lisbon, and Prague, we work together to create innovative, user-centric solutions that elevate the streaming experience for millions of users worldwide.
What role will you play?
As an Engineering Manager, you will lead, support, and represent a team of frontend engineers within a complex, multi‑stakeholder organisation.
Your primary focus will be:
People leadership and team health
Stakeholder alignment and communication
Delivery ownership and prioritisation
Creating clarity in a fast‑moving, international environment
You’ll act as a connector between engineering, product, design, and leadership—ensuring that the team understands why they’re building something, not just what they’re building.
What You'll Do:
Lead and coach a team of frontend engineers, fostering psychological safety, trust, inclusion, and continuous feedback.
Own delivery and execution for the team: quarterly OKRs, roadmap alignment, prioritisation, and predictable outcomes.
Act as a primary communication interface between engineering and stakeholders across Product, Design, Architecture, and leadership.
Translate business goals into clear, actionable plans for the team, providing context and focus.
Facilitate collaboration and resolve ambiguity, dependencies, and conflicting priorities in a matrix organisation.
Support individual growth and career development, through regular 1:1s, feedback, and development planning.
Use metrics and qualitative signals to understand team health, delivery performance, and improvement opportunities.
Advocate for the team, ensuring realistic expectations, sustainable pace, and high morale.
Provide technical guidance at a high level, partnering with senior engineers and architects rather than owning detailed technical solutions yourself.
Champion a customer‑first mindset, ensuring teams understand the real‑world impact of their work.
What skills do you need to play your role well?
Proven experience as a people manager leading software engineering teams.
Experience driving delivery in a high-paced environment, focusing on outcomes rather than activity.
Strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills, with the ability to influence without authority.
High emotional intelligence: empathetic, approachable, and confident in group settings.
Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and grow engineers at different career stages.
Comfort operating in a matrixed, international organisation with competing priorities.
Ability to create alignment, clarity, and focus in complex problem spaces.
Solid understanding of modern frontend development concepts (you don’t need to be hands‑on daily).
Proactive, self‑driven, and energised by collaboration and change.
