About the team:
Tapestry is Alphabet’s moonshot for the electric grid, working at the frontier where energy’s complexity meets AI’s potential. We were born at X, the innovation lab responsible for breakthrough technologies like Waymo, Verily and Google Brain.
To keep pace with humanity’s growing energy needs, the world needs a grid that is visible and understandable. We provide that clarity by building advanced, AI-enabled analytical and planning tools that allow the entire energy ecosystem to plan smarter, move faster, and operate more efficiently—ensuring electricity remains reliable and affordable for everyone.
This is a global effort. Tapestry is proud to support partners in the U.S., U.K., Chile, New Zealand, Australia and Brazil as they build a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
Joining Tapestry allows you to do the best work of your life as part of a multidisciplinary team of experts in AI, energy systems, software engineering and product design—all collaborating to reshape energy on a global scale. If you want to tackle problems that matter and build tools with real impact, we would love to meet you. Learn more about our team and our mission here.
About the role:
As a Senior Frontend Engineer, you will own the development of intuitive, high-performance web applications that make the invisible complexity of the electric grid visible. You will be the primary driver for key product features, collaborating deeply with UX designers and AI researchers to turn sophisticated energy models into seamless interactive experiences..
How you will make 10X Impact:
- Own the end-to-end implementation of sophisticated frontend modules, ensuring they are robust, accessible, and performant.
- Design and implement production-level software that renders massive geospatial and time-series datasets into actionable insights for global energy partners.
- Champion code quality by leading rigorous code reviews and driving the adoption of modern frontend standards and testing patterns.
- Partner with Product and AI teams to build high-fidelity prototypes that test the feasibility of "moonshot" ideas in the energy domain.
- Contribute to and maintain our shared Design Systems and component libraries to ensure UI consistency across multiple internal and external applications.
- Act as the technical point of contact for UX and Product, translating design requirements into scalable technical architectures.
What you should have:
- 5+ years of experience building and scaling sophisticated web applications in a production environment.
- Mastery of TypeScript and at least one modern framework (React or Angular), with a deep understanding of state management and asynchronous patterns.
- A high bar for UI/UX polish and "pixel-perfect" implementation, with the ability to navigate tools like Figma or Adobe XD with ease.
- Experience designing reusable component libraries and managing complex build pipelines (e.g., Webpack, Vite, or Nx).
- Strong experience with automated testing frameworks (Jest, Vitest, Cypress, or Playwright) to ensure the reliability of mission-critical tools.
- The ability to break down vague product requirements into structured technical tasks with clear milestones.
It’d be great if you also had these:
- Experience with D3.js, Mapbox, Deck.gl, or WebGL for visualizing complex spatial data.
- Knowledge of browser rendering engines and the ability to profile and optimize "janky" interactions in data-heavy apps.
- Experience working in high-growth or "zero-to-one" environments where rapid iteration is key.
Our values
