French-to-English or English-to-French Translator and/or Editor
Remote | Ongoing, Freelance Independent Contractor Opportunity
**Important Requirement: Candidates must be U.S. citizens willing to complete a Tier 1 background investigation, including fingerprinting.
Position Overview:
GLS is seeking an experienced French-to-English or English-to-French translator and editor to support ongoing document translation and editing assignments.
This remote, freelance independent contractor role involves translating and editing a variety of official documents, including vital records, legal documents, official certificates, and academic transcripts. Assignments will be provided on an as-needed basis and may require quick turnaround timelines.
- Translate French to English or English to French into an accurate product.
- Edit and review translated materials for accuracy, grammar, formatting, and consistency.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow all client-specific instructions and formatting requirements.
- Meet assigned deadlines, including one-to-two-day turnaround timelines, when required,
Requirements Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship and current residence in the United States are required.
- Native or highly proficient French and English language skills.
- A Bachelor’s degree in translation, linguistics, language studies, or an equivalent qualification is preferred.
- Two to five years of proven experience as a translator and/or editor.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent formatting skills, and the ability to produce client-ready work.
- Reliable, deadline-oriented, highly productive, and comfortable working independently.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, professional approach.
- Access to up-to-date Windows software and the ability to work with standard document formats.
- Able to provide per-word rates for translation and editing.
- Willingness to accept assignments on an as-needed basis.
