Job Description
Compose.ly is seeking talented freelance writers interested in creating content for one of our clients, a major American news website that provides content for African Americans, including news, opinion, entertainment, and lifestyle.
We seek dynamic writers who can research and create bylined blog articles, on assignment, about entertainment and lifestyle topics that affect and reflect Black America—all in a voice that’s dynamic and engaging, authentic and culturally relevant, empowering, aspirational, accessible, and relatable. Depending on experience and interest, successful applicants may also be offered projects for other clients.

Objectives of this role
This is a freelance position, and the pay rate is USD $0.10 per word. You’ll have the flexibility to choose the content types and topics you want to work on from a list of available projects commissioned by our clients. The objectives will vary based on the client's needs.

- Are savvy, relatable, reliable, and empowered — and you aim to share your expertise and knowledge with readers
- Know how to maximize credit card points and build the optimum itinerary for a family vacation
- Know what entrepreneurs and business owners are grappling with, like whether to be sole proprietors or start LLCs, and are ready to explain which might be a better fit and when
- Know what Black-owned skincare brands readers should be shopping for
- Know who’s breaking records in NCAA basketball and Black women legends in the sport — and if a reader needs a suggestion on a gift for Mother’s Day or what book to take to their cousin’s baby shower, you know that, too
Responsibilities
- Create professional content, including blog posts, white papers, landing pages, and more, specifically related to entertainment and lifestyle within the Black community
- Ensure that your content adheres to SEO best practices, is engaging, accurate, and follows project guidelines
- Make requested revisions as necessary
- Efficiently organize and track your projects to meet deadlines
Skills and qualifications
- A bachelor's degree or higher
- 1+ years of experience writing on entertainment and lifestyle topics
- Proficiency in English
- Knowledge of SEO in content creation and current SEO best practices
