About the Team:
South China Morning Post (SCMP) is looking for a highly skilled freelance sub-editor to join our Specialist Publications department, a lifestyle content division focused on fashion, culture, F&B, travel and more.
Purpose of the Position:
- Edit written materials for clarity, style, accuracy and adherence to editorial guidelines.
- Create engaging headlines and optimise articles for readability and searchability.
In this role, you will:
- Edit and rewrite copy for the Post’s various Specialist Publications titles, in print and online.
- Be responsible for correct grammar, spelling, application of house style and tone of the published work.
- Ensure that copy is factually correct and that it suits the target audience.
- Ensure online copy and headlines are optimised for reach, identifying relevant keywords using tools such as Google Trends, AI or other platforms.
- Optimise print layouts and page furniture for impact.
- Edit social media captions, source editorial materials, curate metadata.
- Be able to work across a range of projects, including online features, glossy magazines, pull-outs and broadsheet articles.
Skills and Experience that will lead to success:
- Degree in English, Communications or a related field.
- A minimum of three years’ experience editing professionally in English.
- Proficiency in content management systems, digital publishing software such as Adobe InDesign and basic use of AI tools.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience of editing lifestyle, luxury or culture content is preferable.
Work location will be in Hong Kong or remote.
