The Role

Compose.ly is seeking talented freelance SEO copy editors to refine and optimize content for one of our clients, a prominent platform offering destination guides and experiences. This role involves enhancing the clarity, accuracy, and engagement of articles, ensuring alignment with SEO best practices and the client’s distinct tone of voice. Depending on experience and interest, successful applicants may also be offered projects for other clients.

Objectives of this role

This is a freelance position requiring approximately 25 hours of work per week, with flexible scheduling. The project duration is a minimum of three months. You’ll collaborate with a team of writers to refine and optimize content for performance, ensuring it meets client guidelines and SEO standards.

This role is for you if you…

  • Have proven experience in SEO copy editing and are fluent in English, both written and spoken.
  • Are skilled at providing constructive feedback to writers while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.
  • Excel at optimizing content for SEO, driving better performance and conversions.
  • Are familiar with keyword research tools like Ahrefs or Semrush and project management tools like JIRA.
  • Have an eye for selecting strong editorial imagery to complement written content.
  • Are detail-oriented, self-motivated, and can manage your time effectively in a remote environment.
  • Thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced start-up environment and are adaptable to evolving needs.

Responsibilities

  • Edit and refine destination guides, ensuring SEO optimization and alignment with the brand’s tone of voice.
  • Collaborate with junior writers to provide feedback and manage deadlines.
  • Ensure all content aligns with our SEO guidelines and brand tone.
  • Produce engaging and accurate articles that align with client guidelines.
  • Optimize existing content to improve performance and increase conversions.
  • Regularly check in with the team to ensure alignment and track progress.

Skills and qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • 1+ years of experience in SEO-focused editing or writing.
  • Proficiency in English and familiarity with AP Style.
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices, keyword research, and tools like Ahrefs or SEMrush.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
