The Role
Contractor will own well-scoped Django/Python engineering topics end-to-end: technical scoping, implementation, tests, docs, and delivery. Work within team flow (PRs, reviews, deployments), maintain production-grade quality (robustness, security, readability), communicate risks, and tackle projects like DB splitting, GitLab integration, prompt migration, and security backlog.

How to apply / next steps
As demand accelerates on Symbiotic Code, we are opening a contracting mission to strengthen the engineering team on high-impact deliverables, with a focus on speed, quality, and strong autonomy.
As a Contractor Software Engineer, you will join the team to take ownership of well-scoped engineering topics, deliver iteratively, and integrate into our existing development flow (PRs, reviews, quality gates, deployments).
- Strong autonomy on a Django (Python) stack (no planned upskilling on these fundamental)
- Testing discipline (useful tests, reproducibility) and systems thinking (performance / reliability / security impact)
- Mission-first mindset: willingness to “cross the aisle” and contribute where the mission needs it
- Ability to operate in a demanding environment (quality, security, ownership)
- Own a topic end-to-end (technical scoping, implementation, tests, documentation, delivery)
- Participate in the team’s development cycle: PRs, code reviews, feedback loops, iterations
- Maintain production-grade quality (robustness, security, readability)
- Communicate clearly on progress, risks, and trade-offs
These are examples (non-exhaustive) and may evolve:
- Database split to enable a future single-tenant deployment (migration / progressive separation)
- GitLab integration (existing spec)
- Prompt management migration (from client to backend)
- Security backlog (bug bounty-related issues)
Contractors are expected to be fully part of the team’s development flow (reviews like everyone else). Core vision / research topics will typically be handled by full-time engineers.
- Target daily rate (TJM) / budget: €600 / day
- Contract: 3 months, renewable
- Equipment & compliance: use of a Symbiotic Security laptop (Vanta) + a Symbiotic Security Gmail account
- Location: Morning Laffite - 3 days in the office / 2 remote days
- Renewal: based on project progress and evolving needs
A faster process than full-time hiring:
- Needs qualification (stack / budget)
- Remote technical assessment including:
- Algorithm & logic
- Architecture: asynchronous systems, scalability, project structure and delivery
- Python / Bun
- Security mindset / AppSec sensitivity (or interest in leveling up in a security-focused context)
Please share:
- Your CV or LinkedIn
- Links to code (GitHub, PRs) when possible
- Your daily rate, start availability, and preferred rhythm (days/week)
