Honeybee Robotics is seeking a Fracture Mechanics Analyst III/IV to join our Motion Control Team. We are looking for someone who has experience in structural analysis, with a strong background in fracture analysis. In this role, you'll be responsible for performing structural and fracture analyses for space electro-mechanical systems using various analytical methods. You'll work closely with design teams to provide support from concept development to product implementation. 

Responsibilities

  • Utilize Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and hand calculations where relevant, to provide technical substantiation for design decisions. 
  • Calculate crack growth life and critical crack size using NASGRO 
  • Develop a fracture control plan based on NASA-STD-5019 
  • Provide NDE recommendations and assist in note preparation for drawings to satisfy the fracture control plan.

Required Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related discipline with 6+ years of experience performing structural analysis or a Master’s degree with 4+ years of experience 
  • Fundamental knowledge of elasticity, plasticity, and failure in engineering material/structures 
  • Fundamental knowledge of crack growth models and crack growth cases 
  • Fundamental knowledge of structural statics, stress/strain/modulus, bending/shear/axial force development 
  • Must have a strong understanding of low cycle fatigue (LCF) and fatigue and fracture mechanics theory and applications 
  • NASGRO Mechanics and Fatigue crack growth software. 
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) software – ANSYS and/or NASTRAN 
  • Experience with metallic materials 
  • Ability to write technical reports and present results to a multi-disciplined team 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
