Summary
Elephas, a Madison, WI-based biotechnology start-up company, is seeking a highly motivated In-House Lawyer to join our team. Applicants should be comfortable in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment. A successful candidate will provide legal advice, draft and review contracts and ensure legal compliance. As an In-House Lawyer at Elephas, you will support strategic decisions by mitigating risks across various areas: commercial contracts, employment law, corporate governance, etc. This is a fractional, onsite role based in Madison, WI.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice: Offer guidance to executives and various departments on legal matters that affect the company's operations and strategy.
- Draft and review documents: Create, review, and negotiate contracts, employment agreements, and other legal documents.
- Ensure compliance: Make sure the company adheres to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Oversee corporate governance: Assist in the development and implementation of company policies and ensure adherence to corporate policies.
- Conduct research: Stay up to date on changes in legislation and conduct legal research to advise the company on new risks and opportunities.
- Manage internal matters: Handle internal investigations, provide training to employees on legal topics, and advise on labor and employment issues.
- Support transactions: Provide legal perspective on corporate transactions like mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships.
Education/Experience/Skills
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the state bar in good standing.
- Strong background in corporate law, contract law, and compliance.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience managing complex legal projects and transactions.
- Adaptable, open to change, able to work in ambiguous situations, and capable of responding to new information or unexpected circumstances
- Able to thrive in fast-paced culture, taking on multiple responsibilities based on business needs

What We Do
Elephas is developing a technology platform to assess how live tumor cells respond to cancer therapies. We are harnessing the latest advances in cancer biology, multimodal microscopy, engineering, and artificial intelligence to revolutionize cancer treatment.
Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, with the number of patients projected to triple by 2060. Despite advances in precision medicine and a significant increase in the number of available therapies, many cancer patients still derive no benefit from their treatment. Immunotherapy is an emerging type of treatment that can greatly benefit patients when it is successful. Unfortunately, today only 1 in 3 patients receiving therapy respond and only 1 in 5 receiving immunotherapy respond.
We maintain the native 3-dimensional cellular architecture of a patient’s tumor and enable ex-vivo real-time profiling of live tumor samples. The platform is being developed for use with immunotherapy agents alone and in combination with traditional chemotherapy and targeted therapies.
