Position Overview

The FP&A Project Manager will serve as the financial manager for large scale undersea telecommunication projects.  This role is the finance lead for a $200-500 million project and is a major steppingstone to larger finance and operational roles within SubCom. He/she will work with a matrix-style project team comprised of representatives from across the organization, supporting all phases of the project (sales, engineering, manufacturing, marine installation).  The FP&A Project Manager will seek to maximize revenue, control costs, and identify risks and opportunities.  He/she will ensure all team members are aware of financial objectives and report on performance, risks, and mitigations.  Duties will include preparation of project budgets, project forecasts, variance analyses, project changes/contract variations; oversight of customer billing and collections; supporting book close, forecasting, annual budget preparation, and audits.   

Responsibilities

  • As primary financial interface for executive leadership, support one or more projects, (simultaneously), from bid and proposal phase through completion.
  • Construct initial project cost budget, in collaboration with Sales, Project Management (“PM”), Manufacturing, and Marine Operations.
  • Work with PM and Operations to construct a monthly forecast of revenue, cost, billing/collections for the life of the project
  • Drive annual target setting on projects
  • Oversee, prepare and present reports on financial performance (project P&L, variance analysis, billing/collections, etc.)
  • Provide financial support for proposed contract variations and project changes
  • Support the Project Manager with project objectives by analyzing contract deliverables and collaborating with project team members.
  • Advise Project Management to align project decisions with larger business needs
  • Along with PM, document and drive risk management on the project, tracking contingencies and opportunities
  • Attend customer meetings in person or virtually
  • Manage & coordinate customer billing with AR department; collections on project
  • Support financial audits of assigned project(s)
  • Manage/assist on other financial-related aspects of the projects (insurance, tax, performance guarantees, etc.)
  • Suggest and lead process improvement initiatives
  • Consistently ensures that business is always conducted with integrity and that behavior aligns with SubCom policies, procedures, and core values.
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in project management, business administration or accounting/finance required
  • 7+ years project management/project accounting or related business experience
  • Long Term Contract accounting experience required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Oracle ERP a plus
  • Experience in negotiations, strategy development/implementation, and risk management
  • Strong leadership qualities and the ability to complete assignments with little oversight
  • Able to take ownership and responsibility, drive results, and effectively influence others
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Comfortable asking questions and challenging the status quo
  • High standard of integrity and attention to details
  • International and domestic travel to support projects as needed.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in project management, business administration, accounting, or finance
  • 7+ years of project management, project accounting, or related business experience
  • Long-term contract accounting experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Oracle ERP
  • Experience in negotiations, strategy development and implementation, and risk management
  • Strong leadership, communication, ownership, and independent execution abilities
  • High integrity and strong attention to detail
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
