Position:  Founding Program Director Master of Athletic Training


This is a university faculty position with academic rank based upon the appointee’s academic and experiential qualifications. The Program Director provides academic, administrative, and strategic leadership for the Master of Athletic Training program. The position ensures compliance with CAATE Standards, oversees program quality, assessment, curriculum, faculty leadership, and accreditation. The Program Director is a athletic trainer with additional doctoral level training who is provided monetary compensation for their administrative role. If this position is converted to a faculty only role, for any reason, both workload and salary will be adjusted to reflect the loss of duties associated with the Program Director position.  

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for all academic and administrative aspects of the MAT program.
  • Lead curriculum planning, including development of the framework, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement.
  • Direct program evaluation, annual reporting, strategic planning, and accreditation activities.
  • Ensure compliance and maintenance with all CAATE Standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Develop and manage the program budget with the Dean.
  • Participate in faculty recruitment, hiring, and development.
  • Coordinate faculty workload, mentoring, and evaluation with the Dean.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Education Director regarding integration of didactic and clinical education.
  • Maintain program policies, student handbooks, and official records.
  • Support student recruitment, admissions, advising, retention, and graduation.
  • Teaching Responsibilities
    • Teach graduate courses with a teaching load commensurate with administrative responsibilities while advising students and advancing curriculum quality.
  • Scholarship Expectations
    • Maintain contemporary expertise through scholarship, service, and professional development with an active research agenda in athletic training education and/or clinical athletic training.
  • Service Expectations
    • Provide service to the University and profession through committee work, leadership in professional organizations, accreditation activities, peer review, continuing education, and community engagement.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to teach in classroom and laboratory settings and demonstrate athletic training techniques.
  • Mobility: Able to move between buildings and attend classes, meetings, and functions across campus.
  • Speaking: Frequently convey detailed or important instructions and ideas accurately, professionally, and with a contextually appropriate tone and volume. 
  • Cognitive/Emotional: Ability to critically think and express emotions and thoughts in an honest, collegial, constructive, and prudent manner

Travel:

All faculty are expected to be able to travel to campus for all class sessions and occasional departmental and faculty meetings.



Working Relationships and Schedule:


This is a full-time, twelve-month position in the Department of Athletic Training. This position will report to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Current BOC certification in good standing.
  • Eligible for or licensed to practice in South Carolina, as applicable.
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • Previous full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at the postsecondary level.
  • Previous clinical practice demonstrating contemporary expertise.
  • Demonstrated administrative and leadership ability. 
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly activity appropriate for graduate faculty, with the ability to maintain an active program of scholarship in athletic training education and/or clinical athletic training.
  • Affirm an understanding of, and willingness not to teach contrary to, the Baptist Faith & Message 2000
  • Agree to abide by the employee and faculty handbooks, including community standards agreements.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous CAATE accreditation experience.
  • Previous Program Director or Clinical Education Director experience.
  • Experience developing a new athletic training program.
  • Experience with assessment, outcomes management, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Established record of athletic training education research.
  • Experience securing grants or external funding.
  • Experience supervising faculty and academic personnel

 

Skills Required
