About Endgap US Construction is a ~$2T industry that runs on documents; think blueprints, specification books, and contracts. The page count often ranges from hundreds to thousands.
Small gaps between them turn into expensive mistakes on a job site. In aggregate, there is ~$180B of annual rework; of which ~80% is driven by design changes, errors, and omissions.
Endgap uses AI to catch coordination conflicts, spec errors, and scope gaps before they hit the field. Our platform turns days of analysis into minutes, saving architects, general contractors, and construction managers hours of rework and costly delays.
With backing from The University of Chicago, we are tapping into one of the largest, underserved tech markets on the globe.

The Role We're looking for a founding engineer who is ready to set the direction for Endgap’s AI platform. In this role you'll work directly with our co-founders to drive scalable system growth and increase the capabilities of existing infrastructure. You'll live right in the center of product innovation cycles and customer feedback, getting to see how changes impact users in real time.
What You'll Do • Own end-to-end delivery of core product features, from architecture through shipping • Build and iterate on our AI/ML pipeline for document and drawing analysis (computer vision, LLMs) • Shape our frontend and backend architecture as we scale from early customers to broader adoption • Work directly with construction industry users to translate real workflow pain into product • Help set engineering practices, tooling, and hiring bar as we grow the team
Experience • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, with real ownership of systems in production • Comfort working across the stack - this is a small team, and you'll touch frontend, backend, and ML • Experience with applied ML/AI, especially computer vision and LLM-based systems • Startup instincts: comfortable with ambiguity, fast iteration, and building without a large team behind you. • Bonus: experience in construction, AEC, or a related document-heavy vertical • Bonus: prior experience as an early engineer (#1–#5) at another startup
Skills Frontend • Svelte • TypeScript, Tailwind CSS • Firebase Backend • Python, Fast API • Machine Learning (Computer Vision, AI, LLMs) • Google Cloud Platform
Compensation: $165k - $245k | 2% - 8% equity
Note: Strong preference is for on-site in Chicago.
