- Research, test, and evaluate new technology products.
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot desktops, laptops, and mobile devices.
- Develop custom workflow applications and new monitoring and administration tools to automate maintenance tasks.
- Implement and maintain cybersecurity best practices across all supported systems and devices.
- Leverage generative AI tools to accelerate software development and automate workflows.
- Participate in firmwide technology projects not directly related to the founder.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- A degree in computer science or another technical discipline and up to six years of comparable work experience; ideal candidates will have an interest in both building technology and helping others use it effectively.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, C#, PowerShell), familiarity with modern development practices and tools, and an eagerness to explore how these tools can enhance productivity, improve code quality, and streamline development workflows.
- Extensive knowledge of Windows and/or UNIX environments, as well as familiarity with general systems administration, including hardware and software administration and user support (phone, deskside, and/or remote).
- Excellent collaboration, organizational, and communication skills, a passion for improving user experience, and the ability to effectively navigate large, ambiguous projects.
- Experience with or keen interest in cybersecurity is highly valued, including familiarity with threat detection, vulnerability management, endpoint protection, and security monitoring; comfort evaluating and implementing security controls to protect sensitive systems and data.
- Familiarity with generative AI tools for software development is a plus.
- While we welcome candidates with extensive systems administration experience, we’re most interested in exceptional technical ability, problem-solving skills, and intellectual curiosity. Resourceful team members with an impressive record of achievement, who draw on independent research, prior experience, and critical analysis to resolve unfamiliar problems and advance challenging work, will thrive in this role.
- The expected annual base salary for this position is $175,000 to $250,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.

The D. E. Shaw Group Insights
What We Do
The D. E. Shaw group is trusted by investors across the world to manage their assets by seeking the optimal balance of risk and reward. While we’re known as a pioneer in quantitative investing, we also have considerable expertise in areas that involve fundamental analysis or portfolio manager discretion. We use a combination of quantitative and qualitative tools to uncover independent, hard-to-find sources of return across global public and private markets. Founded in 1988 over a small bookstore in downtown New York City, the D. E. Shaw group began with six employees and $28 million in capital and quickly became a pioneer in computational finance. In the early days of exposed pipes and extension cords, tripping on a cable could take out our whole trading system. Today, the firm has more than 2,500 people around the globe and an institutional-grade (and trip-proof) infrastructure, but we still value creativity, entrepreneurship, and the spirit of discovery. If you’re an intellectually adventurous person who loves to collaborate on challenging and rewarding projects, we encourage you to apply.
