Job Title:  Risk / Safety Supervisor             FLSA Status:  Exempt                                                Department:  Safety/HR

SUMMARY: To provide site safety leadership, ensure facility compliance with corporate safety standards, implement safety directives, improve safety performance, and ensure facility safety policies and procedures are aligned with governmental regulations under the direction of the Safety Manager with a dotted line to the HR Manager.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices
  • Facilitate a work environment that supports a safe and healthy culture
  • Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment
  • Perform safety audits and inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance
  • Log, track and report work injuries by managing the OSHA Log
  • Understand and know what steps to take and who to contact when responding
  • Investigate industrial accidents, near-miss incidents, and occupational injuries to determine causes, install preventive measures, and manage return-to-work activities
  • Ensures that the injured employee has been given the utmost attention including supporting documentation and consultation to help the employee return to work.
  • Coordinate work restrictions with Department Managers and Human Resources Department 
  • Provide technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to employees on safety initiatives and necessary changes
  • Must be able to conduct presentations in front of management and employees
  • Coordinate employee safety programs to determine their adequacy including review of short- and long-term strategic safety planning and development
  • Order and maintain facility safety inventory including supplies and equipment
  • Work within company policy as outlined in the company safety and employee handbook and OSHA Safety rules
  • Accountable for the compliance, verification, and implementation of the following responsibilities: food safety and regulatory requirements, quality systems, and product specification.
  • Good attendance is an essential part of this position and must be able to work flexible hours including weekends and work overtime on short notice
  • Assist in the BRC (British Retail Consortium) audits as necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Education / Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Business or Risk Management
  • Or a combination of education and a minimum of 3-5 years of progressive safety experience
  • Experience in managing non-subscriber plans is preferred

Required Skills/Licenses/Certifications

  • Ability to build trust and confidence with management and supervision
  • Strategic thinking and leadership skills
  • Ability to communicate with employees at all levels
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

  • The overall nature of the position requires constant light physical exertion with minimal physical effort frequently required. There is constant exposure to environmental noises and hazards, frequent exposure to extreme cold, temperature changes and wet conditions, and occasional exposure to humidity and other atmospheric conditions.
  • The constant physical demands of the position are talking and hearing.
  • The frequent physical demands of the position are repetitive hand motions.
  • The occasional physical demands of the position are standing, walking, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, and eye/hand/foot coordination.
  • While performing some of the duties for this position, the employee is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and extreme cold temperature <40 F Cooler. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate
