Title: Football Staff Intern
Description: Under the supervision of the Head Football Coach, the Football Staff Intern is responsible for on-field coaching for the fall traditional season and spring non-traditional season with other duties as assigned by the head coach and/or Executive Director of Athletics. Position responsibilities must be completed in accordance with the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, College, Empire 8, NCAA, and other related association rules and regulations.
This position will receive on-campus housing in exchange for a role within the office of Residence Life. The candidate will be expected to work 29 hours per week in the fall and 19 hours per week in the spring for the football team and assist as needed with the residence life staff on weekends as required.
2026-2027 Academic year dates of service on campus will be:
  • Fall semester: Monday, August 3, 2026 to Friday, December 11, 2026
  • Spring semester: Monday, January 25, 2027 to Friday, May 14, 2027
Responsibilities:
  • On-field coaching for the fall traditional season and spring non-traditional season.
  • Assist with recruiting and day-to-day operations of the football program.
  • Assist with a particular position group as assigned by the head coach.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the head coaches and/or Executive Director of Athletics.
  • Serve in support role to Residence Life regarding oversight and safety of students in one of the Hartwick College residence halls.
  • Serve as an on-call first responder several times throughout the school year.
  • Comply with all Federal, State, local, NCAA, Empire 8 Conference, College Department, associational laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Must complete and pass the NCAA Rules Test.
  • As a representative of the College, expected to comport oneself in a professional manner at all times, both on and off campus. No inappropriate relationships with students.
  • Participate in major campus events, including Welcome Weekend, True Blue Weekend, and Commencement Weekend.
Qualifications:  Minimum requirement for this position is a Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) from an accredited college or university. Playing and/or previous coaching experience preferred.  Must have a valid drivers license, clean driving record and be insurable by the College.  CPR/First Aid/AED Certification.

  • Being up to date with safety, rules and regulations and proper certifications
  • Ability to provide academic guidance and mentoring to student-athletes
  • Ability to multi-task and handle a job with a daily change of pace
  • Ability to use independent action, estimating skill, memory, and problem-solving skills
  • Since the position is based in athletics, there are physical demands related to the specific sport and may include exposure to different climate conditions while coaching or recruiting. May frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Salary range: $16.00 per hour; on-campus housing.
