Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled FinOps Engineer to join our client, focusing on AWS cost optimization and governance. The ideal candidate will work directly with the FinOps Practitioner to implement strategies, tools, and processes that ensure cost efficiency across Client’s infrastructure.
An ideal candidate should have advanced technical expertise & strong background in DevOps practices, hands-on experience with cloud cost management, proficiency in scripting, and expertise in tools like Git, Jira, Terraform, and other DevOps technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyse AWS resource usage, including EKS/Kubernetes environments, and identify cost-saving opportunities (e.g., rightsizing, instance type optimization, reservations, and spot instances).
- Drive and support implementation of cost management strategies for EKS clusters, including node group optimization, autoscaling, and workload efficiency.
- Implement and enforce tagging strategies to ensure comprehensive cost allocation.
- Write and maintain scripts Python / Bash / PowerShell for cost management, automating tasks such as rightsizing, lifecycle policies, and report generation.
- Use AWS SDKs, APIs, and CLI to build automation workflows for cloud operations and cost optimization.
- Work directly with the FinOps Practitioner to design and execute FinOps initiatives, including EKS-specific cost-saving measures.
- Implement changes and optimize AWS environments with minimal to no-involvement from the existing SRE/Infrastructure
- Leverage Kubernetes-native tools (e.g., Kubecost, Karpenter) for monitoring and optimizing resource costs.
- Implement FinOps practices in Kubernetes workloads, including namespace and pod-level cost allocation.
- Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform to deploy cost-efficient cloud architectures.
- Set up monitoring and alerting mechanisms using AWS native tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Trusted Advisor, Cost Explorer).
- Generate and automate detailed reports on cost trends, anomalies, and potential savings for stakeholders.
- Leverage tools like Terraform, CloudFormation or CDK to maintain optimized and compliant environments.
- Ensure adherence to cloud cost governance policies and best practices for security and efficiency.
Required Skills:
- Advanced knowledge of AWS services with a focus on EKS, Serverless and cost management tools (e.g., Cost Explorer, Trusted Advisor, Compute Optimizer).
- Proficiency in managing Kubernetes environments, including cluster scaling, workload optimization, and cost tracking.
- Strong scripting skills in languages, such as Python, for automating FinOps processes.
- Proficiency in AWS SDKs, APIs, and CLI for cloud operations and automation.
- Hands-on experience with DevOps tools used in CI/CD pipelines, IaC, static & dynamic code analysis and monitoring.
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles using Terraform and/or CloudFormation.
- Strong ability to analyse and interpret cost data, usage patterns, and recommend actionable optimizations.
- Experience in creating dashboards and reports using AWS Cost Intelligence Dashboard (CID) & other analytics tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- AWS Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or AWS Certified Kubernetes Operations
- Prior experience in a FinOps Engineer role or similar position.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
- Strong problem-solving mindset and ability to implement solutions independently.
