Internship Summary

As an intern in the financial services policy issue area, you will report directly to Thomas Kingsley, Director of Financial Services Policy, at the American Action Forum. Thomas joined the American Action Forum from the private sector, working in financial services management consultancy across Europe and the United States. The majority of his career has been at PricewaterhouseCoopers in London and New York, but he was also previously a senior policy advisor to the Institute of International Finance, specializing in insurance and international regulatory harmonization. Thomas has an MA and a BA in Law from Oxford University, Queen’s College.

A few examples of potential projects as an intern in the Financial Services Policy Internship Program include:

  • Research, write and edit primers
  • Write blogs and op-eds about financial services policy topics
  • Compile data and produced graphs for an online chart book
  • Research and write longer, in depth, papers

Responsibilities

As part of the internship, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Research assistance: Interns will provide research assistance and data collection for their issue area director
  • Event attendance: Interns will attend Capitol Hill hearings, private speaker events, and events held by other DC think tanks to analyze and report on the information presented
  • Forum event support: Interns will help promote, run, and evaluate all Forum events
  • Portfolio and final presentation: Interns will create a portfolio of their work completed at the Forum and give a brief presentation on a topic of their choice

Qualifications

  • Excellent writing ability and communication skills
  • An interest in the politics and policies of center-right conservatives
  • Self-starting attitude
  • Prior coursework in economics, business, real estate or related experiences
  • Strong quantitative skills are highly desired
  • Data collection from Fed and industry sites is preferred

Hours and Compensation

  • Interns must be available for 20 to 29 hours per week in our DC office
  • Interns will be provided an hourly wage
  • Interns will use their own computer/equipment
  • This is a part-time, paid internship
