Description

The Financial Reporting Senior Accountant plays a key role within a high-performing accounting team responsible for delivering timely and accurate management reports and financial statements. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who likes to wear “multiple hats” and thrives in a collaborative team environment. The accountant will support monthly close activities, assist with financial statement preparation, and contribute to process improvements across the department. Success in this role requires a strong attention to detail, transparent and timely communication, and a self-motivated drive to learn and take on new challenges as the business evolves.

Responsibilities

  • Growth opportunity: Build and strengthen leadership skills over time by mastering core responsibilities, gradually expanding ownership and cross-training team members to create capacity for continued development and advancement 
  • Learning mindset: demonstrate initiative to learn new processes and seek clarification timely and when necessary to ensure accurate understanding and execution; utilize an investigative approach to analyze variances, research issues and enhance quality of financial reporting
  • Corporate accounting: prepare journal entries that support corporate G&A (e.g., accruals, prepaid amortization, internal charges and benefits), derivatives, equity and other assigned areas
  • Accounting close: maintain organized accounting records, assist with monthly close of general ledger, analyze variances relative to prior periods, forecast and budget
  • Account reconciliations: prepare monthly schedules, perform preliminary review on reconciliations, research and resolve discrepancies
  • Standard reporting: assist with preparing monthly management reports, BOD slides, and quarterly and annual financial statements and footnotes
  • Cross-team collaboration: coordinate with multiple teams to collect support for monthly and quarterly processes
  • Audit support: prepare schedules, prepare process control documentation, follow up on inquiries, coordinate with various groups on open items list
  • Augmented team partnership: Work closely with the augmented accounting team by providing training, performing a preliminary review of work (journal entries, reconciliation) and delivering feedback to ensure adherence to quality and accuracy
  • Special projects: contribute to process improvements, support acquisition integration and divestiture activities, perform ad hoc analysis, assist with potential solutions to complex accounting challenges
  • Continuous improvement: build templates and reports to create efficiencies and enhance analysis

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience preferred in same or related area
  • CPA certification (or current CPA candidacy) preferred
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles
  • Technical accounting research and memo-writing experience preferred
  • Strong analytical skills with problem-solving aptitude
  • Effective documentation and organizational skills to manage tasks and retain new concepts
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of ERP systems, Quorum software experience is a plus
  • Proficiency in MS Excel

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Job is classified as light physical work in an office setting involving sitting, with intermittent periods of stooping, walking and standing.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift, carry, push or pull 10-25 pounds.
