Position Overview
We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Financial Controller to join our team at Playbook Engineering. This is a hands-on leadership role with high visibility across the business. You will be a key partner to the CEO and senior management team, driving financial performance through accurate reporting, strategic insight, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day transactional finance including accounts payable, accounts receivable, operator reconciliations, payroll, and expenses
- Prepare monthly management accounts for four entities with timely, accurate analysis for senior leadership
- Manage short- and long-term cash flow, ensuring strong liquidity across the business
- Lead financial planning activities including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Improve internal processes and reporting timelines through automation and system improvements
- Ensure financial statements are compliant with accounting standards and lead the year-end process
- Liaise with external auditors, manage audits and respond to queries
- Oversee VAT, tax filings, and other financial regulatory submissions
- Lead and mentor a small finance team, supporting their growth and development
- Collaborate with commercial and operations teams to provide financial insights that inform decision-making
- Coordinate with the Star Sports finance team to align group-wide reporting and controls
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; professional qualification (ACCA, ACA, CIMA) desirable
- Proven experience in a finance leadership role, ideally within tech or iGaming
- Proficient in Sage and Google Workspace or Microsoft Office tools
- Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate complex financial information clearly
- Experience managing junior team members and building effective finance teams
- Highly organised, deadline-driven, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
