Financial Analyst

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Financial Accounting

• Develop a thorough understanding of the Coherent Corp. financial close, reporting, budget, and forecasting processes and requirements.
• Process financial transactions, journal entries, and account reconciliations supporting monthly financial closings.
• Partner with shared services and global finance members to review and validate monthly financial information from domestic and international business units.
• Align on Corporate requests to ensure account roll-forwards and other requests for business information are completed accurately and timely.
• Ensure any required reserves are in place and appropriately supported.
• Assist in the process for attesting to the effectiveness of the company’s internal controls over financial reporting and accounting.
• Oversee accounting treatment of fixed assets, intercompany activity, and cash reconciliations performed by the shared service center, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Partner with operations and project managers to support capital projects and presentations, reviewing spend and closing out projects in a timely manner.
• Partner with tax and the Controller to understand transfer pricing strategies
• Perform ad hoc duties as required.

 

Reporting and Analysis

• Provide accurate and timely financial reporting on key financial metrics with appropriate analysis that allows leadership to effectively influence the course of the business.

• Review department expenses and headcount activity.

• Understand significant variances between forecast and budget.

• Explain monthly movements in inventory, with an emphasis on gross margin and aging value of WIP.

• Analyze gross margin and performance improvement initiatives that help drive business results including analysis of costing practices and accuracy.

• Assist in preparing monthly operational reviews and understanding current trends in productivity, yields, and work-in-progress.

Financial Planning/Forecasting

• Assist controller with preparation of 5 Year Plan, Budget, & Forecasts.
• Prepare budget/forecast schedules for management.

Other

• Support activities and requests from the Business Group.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required; CPA, CMA, or MBA is preferred.

• Minimum 3-5 years of experience inclusive of the following:

  • Manufacturing accounting background, ideally worked in a vertically integrated manufacturing environment

  • Experience with ERP systems, specifically Advanced Oracle experience and Hyperion, MS Excel

  • Partnering with Shared Services and other functions outside of the accounting team

  • Cost Accounting and inventory management

  • Advanced Excel Skills 

• 2 years Financial Planning & Analysis experience preferred with a knowledge of profit and loss statements, corporate requests including but not limited to budgeting/forecasting/reporting.

 

Working Conditions

• Working conditions typical of a climate controlled and professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Requires visits to manufacturing facility.  Must be able to travel domestically and globally as the job requires.
