Financial Analyst/Coordinator

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Financial Analyst plays a key role in advancing the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation’s mission to expand economic opportunity through entrepreneurship and education. This position supports both enterprise-wide financial planning and the Foundation’s grantmaking efforts, helping ensure that resources are allocated effectively to maximize impact.

Approximately 75% of this role focuses on the development, management, and monitoring of the Foundation’s annual budget and quarterly forecasts, while 25% supports the Grants Administration team through financial due diligence and analysis of prospective and active grantees.

Specific Responsibilities include:

Financial Planning & Analysis (approximately 75%)

  • Support the development and consolidation of the Foundation’s annual operating budget, aligning financial resources with strategic priorities and mission-driven initiatives.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining quarterly forecasts, including variance analysis and scenario modeling to inform leadership decision-making.
  • Prepare monthly departmental updates with concise, clear summaries of spend-to-date, forecast updates, and key variances.
  • Monitor budget-to-actual performance and provide actionable insights to department leaders.
  • Maintain departmental budget models, adjusting for the latest spend and forecast data while ensuring accuracy.
  • Prepare financial reports, dashboards, and presentations that translate data into clear, mission-relevant insights.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure financial plans reflect programmatic goals and evolving organizational priorities.
  • Identify trends, risks, and opportunities to improve financial stewardship and long-term impact.

Grants Administration Support (approximately 25%)

  • Partner with the Grants Administration team to conduct financial due diligence on prospective grantees, supporting responsible and effective deployment of philanthropic capital.
  • Review financial statements, budgets, and supporting documentation for grant applicants.
  • Assess financial health, sustainability, and compliance risks of organizations.
  • Assist in developing financial monitoring processes for active grants to ensure accountability and impact.
  • Provide analysis and recommendations to support informed, equitable grantmaking decisions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field required.
  • 1-5 years of relevant experience in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, or related areas.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates for this position must be highly motivated, capable of self-direction, and able to work collaboratively in a team. Candidates must exhibit a keen sense of responsibility and enjoy working with multiple demands, shifting priorities, and constant change.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Excel and financial modeling; experience with financial systems is a plus
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial audiences
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated interest in or commitment to the Foundation’s mission
  • Experience in nonprofit finance, grantmaking, or due diligence
  • Familiarity with financial reporting tools or ERP systems
  • Collaborative, team-oriented environment focused on mission impact
  • Ability to manage deadlines tied to budget cycles and grant review timelines
