Financial Accountant-Inventory
Overview
We are seeking a Financial Accountant based out of our Chicago office. The position supports accounting activities tied to our North America promotional inventory. This individual will work closely with both internal and external business partners to ensure the timely, accurate recording of inventory transactions and to ensure that item inventory quantities reported by system warehouses remain aligned with our general ledger. In addition to inventory entries, this position is the lead accountant for an assigned company and is responsible for month-end journal entries, account reconciliations, quarterly fluctuation analysis of balance sheet accounts, year-end activities, and other reporting as required. A solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is a must. Other key attributes to achieve success in the role are a keen attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and strong communication skills. You will have the opportunity to interact with individuals in various departments and levels of management across the organization as well as have direct contact with external auditors and system partners.
Responsibilities
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Primary Responsibilities:
- Prepare month-end inventory journal entries to ensure proper recording of revenue, cost of sales, inventory, receivables and vouchered/unvouchered payables based on inventory status/shipment date.
- Record monthly promotional journal entry for US, Canada, Europe, Latin America, and Asia entities.
- Prepare other journal entries and reclasses for interest, discounts, returns, samples, merchandisers, statistical AR & inventory balances and the lower of cost or market inventory valuation.
- Complete account reconciliations monthly utilizing Oracle's Account Reconciliation Cloud tool and prepare and lead quarterly balance sheet fluctuation reviews.
- Review warehouse inventory reports vs general ledger and work with contacts to resolve discrepancies.
- Enter inventory adjustments and initiate debit/credit transactions in accordance with policy.
- Manage insurance claim reporting, associated journal entries and related federal tax filings.
- Respond to audit requests specific to assigned company and promotional inventory activity.
- Complete year-end packages and tax reporting for assigned company.
- Review and approve accurate entry of item inventory value (SPIF) in system for assigned markets.
- In partnership with warehouse leadership, coordinate the annual inventory of promotional product at all North America warehouses.
- Participate in ad hoc special projects as required and other tasks as assigned

Desired Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting required, CPA certification desired
- 1-3 years of inventory accounting experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP
- JD Edwards or other ERP experience.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Capacity to work independently
