Under general supervision, responsible for certain accounting activities supporting the Central team. May have specific job focus such as Margin & Inventory, Labor & Benefits, Insurance and Other Expenses, Construction, General Ledger, Operational Expenses, Facilities, Corporate or Occupancy Accounting.

Global Staff Accountant – Other Expense

Global Support – Austin, TX

Reports To: Other Expense Team Leader

Primary Responsibilities:  

  • Manage multiple processes for Other Expense transactional accounting for the company in a collaborative effort with a cross-section from multiple teams, with an eye for improving processes and gaining efficiencies. This would include involvement as needed in the development, testing, deployment, training, and ongoing support for the functional area, as well as necessary process changes and improvements with the transition to Workday financials.
  • Work closely with multiple regional and Global business partners, such as Marketing, Tech, Legal, OneCard, and others, as needed.
  • Create journal entries for close, for allocations, and for GL correction. Regular processes include prepaid amortizations, reclasses, expense accruals, and analysis of activity and trend to ensure appropriate classification and recognition of expenses and related Balance Sheet offsets.
  • Assist in the close process, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and completion of relevant accounts, both Income Statement and Balance Sheet.
  • Perform fiscal period reconciliations to reflect Foundation Data Model and other reporting needs, whether by location/BU, company, GL account, and/or cost center.
  • Participate in the review and analysis of the relevant financial information and ensure appropriate communication to the regions and business partners is provided as needed.
  • Provide strong customer service to our regional and Global Support business partners, as well as external parties. Regular communication includes summaries of meeting notes to aid in next steps, inquiries related to analysis of data or requests made of the team, and follow-ups on items that slip through the cracks, especially when multiple teams are involved in long-term initiatives.
  • Help establish and monitor service level agreements between the Global and regional teams.
  • Participate on tasks forces, as needed, and partner with various teams such as Operations, Accounts Payable, Tech, Finance, Marketing, and Purchasing.
  • Respond to inquiries and ad hoc analysis.
  • Provide business partners with various reporting needs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Must Have/Be:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 2 to 4 years of related accounting experience.
  • CPA certification is a plus, but not required with a solid understanding of GAAP and accounting best practices.
  • Ability to work within multiple systems and see opportunities for improvements.
  • Strong analytical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to use Excel at an intermediate level, including v-lookups and pivots.
  • Experience in using Microsoft Access or Smartsheets is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively manage change and thrive in an evolving organizational structure.
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and analyze financial reports and accounting literature.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from diverse groups.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office software at an intermediate level. 
  • Workday financials experience preferred.
  • Possess strong organization skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to question information received for appropriateness and completeness.
  • Ability to define problems by collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with team members to ensure completion of projects.
