The incumbent will be a member of the Machined Implantables, Capital and Disposables (MICD) Operations Network Finance leadership team and Partnering with Machined Implantables Operations VP overseeing $700M in cost pools, direct responsibility for leading the Operations Finance team comprised of over 35 finance professionals (10 direct reports) with 13 global manufacturing locations. This position will also partner closely with the Cranial and Spinal Technologies (CST) and Ear Nose Throat (ENT) OU Finance leaders on strategic projects. The role is highly dynamic, requiring strong management and leadership skills, and the ability to oversee and execute on multiple areas of work simultaneously. The Senior Finance Director is expected to develop long-term strategic relationships with a wide array of stakeholders and leverage existing relationships within the Medtronic matrix. Strong collaboration and clear communication, including with senior executive leaders, are key and success will depend on effectively influencing and negotiating across businesses and regions to drive alignment on objectives and clear paths to execution. The Senior Finance Director should also be comfortable presenting updates on progress up to the VPs of Operations and Finance.

This position reports to the Vice President of MICD Operations Finance.

A Day in the Life

 

 

  • Ensure integrity of P&L and Balance sheet for all Machined Implantables manufacturing facilities
  • Partner with Corporate Operations Controller team to develop and maintain robust internal controls and ensure governance and compliance for all sites
  • Partner on development and execution of new and existing comprehensive manufacturing strategy
  • Attract, develop, and retain top talent with a focus on diversity
  • Provide leadership in ensuring a work environment of inclusion, engagement and innovation
  • Facilitate development of plans to deliver 6% of more cost down annually
  • Ensure strong planning, forecasting, reporting and analysis capabilities are in place across all sites
  • Develop and maintain highly capable decision support methods and techniques for both strategic and ongoing tactical requirements
  • Support for executive leadership requirements including internal and external reporting and analysis needs for CST, ENT, and Neuroscience executive management
  • Develop and execute strategy that ensures continuous improvement of finance processes and systems
  • Business Partnering: Take the initiative to identify a broad range of business issues and provide leadership in the decision-making process. Integrate the finance function with business activities to provide value to the customer. Actively participate in managing the business and in establishing its strategic direction.
  • Finance and Accounting Knowledge:
  • Demonstrate a broad and in-depth understanding of accounting and finance. Understand, interpret, and apply accounting principles and processes to ensure compliance with legal, business accounting, and ethical standards.
  • Financial Analysis: Organize and structure business information to identify specific risks and opportunities. Apply quantitative and qualitative factors, skills and business experience to arrive at meaningful conclusions and recommendations. Develop innovative alternatives and solutions when issues arise.
  • Internal Controls: Understand and effectively applies internal control principles and objectives, including Medtronic's Key Corporate Policies.
  • Planning and Reporting: Accurately monitor and project an organization's financial performance. Provide performance measures and interpret results in view of plans and objectives.
  • Technology Knowledge and Application: Identify the Ops finance information needs of the business and lead the development and implementation of related-information systems strategies.
  • Travel requirement: Upto 25%

Minimum Requirements

 

 

 

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 15 years of finance experience with 10+ years of managerial experience , or Advanced Degree with a minimum 13 years prior finance experience, minimum of 10 years of managerial experience

Nice to Have

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 10+ years business experience
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in Accounting/Finance Planning & Analysis
  • Strong influence management skills
  • Knowledge of general accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Resource and budget management experience.
  • Good judgment and problem solving skills
  • Proven business partnering skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of projects and ability to work with various levels of management
  • Ability to travel
  • Advanced degree preferred: MBA or CPA
  • Experience leading in a complex organization.
  • Manufacturing / Supply Chain finance experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to enable effective relationships across Medtronic's matrix-confident and assertive style, but respectful of others and team-oriented
  • Independent thinker, strong self-starter who takes initiative, and is comfortable with ambiguity
  • Quantitative and data-driven analytical approach
  • PMP, Six Sigma and/or Lean certification; Strong program management, organization, and problem-solving skills-with proven success in managing highly complex programs resulting in measurable improvement
  • Exceptional presentation, oral, and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to interface effectively with executive leaders, including C-Suite
  • Highly adaptable, adjusts style to maximize effectiveness with different audiences, and able to both influence and respond to change
  • Prior experience at a top-tier consulting firm
