As the Underwriting Manager of Overhaul Re’s Auto Liability Insurance Program, you will be responsible for building the future of Overhaul Re’s insurance program to drive sustained profitable growth. This is a dynamic, entrepreneurial role in which you will work with insurance partners and Overhaul Re’s senior management to create and market a scalable program that benefits Overhaul Re’s insureds by requiring the adoption of Overhaul technology and providing reasonable insurance coverage.
To seize this opportunity, you will work closely with senior management of Overhaul Re to drive consistency in our program development, build strong executive relationships with our Insurance partners, and drive cross-functional support to make this unique Insurance program successful and scalable.
Position Summary
The Underwriter is responsible for using technical, sales and analytical skills to provide insurance solutions that help Overhaul Re customers manage risk. The Underwriter will have a thorough understanding of Overhaul Re’s strategies and appetites and will use internal and external data to make appropriate individual and portfolio risk decisions.The Underwriter is responsible for the profitable growth of the developing book of business, utilizing underwriting policies and guidelines, rating manual rules and insurance laws and regulations. The open position is remote reporting to the President of Overhaul Re with frequent travel within the United States required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
- Underwriting Expertise
- Reviews applications and financial requirements to determine acceptability of risk in accordance with Overhaul Re’s guidelines and standards
- Understands pricing components and rating methodology as well as use of the predictive modeling tools; prices risk based on financial and competitive analysis
- Uses all appropriate underwriting tools, disciplines, and knowledge of strategies to ensure underwriting guidelines are followed
- Demonstrates technical underwriting skills through strategic, thorough account reviews and file documentation
- Prepares or analyzes information on adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, underwriting requirements, status and declinations in order to drive results
- Adheres to underwriting guidelines and underwriting discipline to minimize exposure and appropriately price risk
- Keeps current on state/territory issues, regulations and trends
- Portfolio Management
- Manages Overhaul Re’s portfolio to achieve gross written premium, profitability, rate, retention, new business and portfolio management goals
- Prioritizes time and resources to effectively manage and optimize performance
- Operates with an Enterprise perspective to identify new product opportunities and create growth within other lines of business and/or customer segments
- Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of Overhaul Re’s product and appetite while clearly communicating Overhaul Re’s position at the point of sale where appropriate
- Sales & Distribution Management
- Works closely with Overhaul’s Insurance Channel Manager to develop producer relationships to build pipeline and agency intelligence while driving performance to meet and exceed results
- Works closely with Overhaul’s Insurance Channel Manager to develop and implement distributor specific plans, monitor performance, and adjust plan to ensure a substantial pipeline for future profitable growth
- Works closely with Overhaul’s Insurance Channel Manager to drive effective relationship management and customer activities to build trust, facilitate negotiation and secure commitment with the customer
- Works closely with Overhaul’s Insurance Channel Manager to proactively identify potential new product opportunities and to deliver comprehensive insurance solutions for the customer
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of Commercial Auto underwriting processes, coverage, and tools to gather and evaluate information in order to reach appropriate decisions on renewals and new business in the Motor Carrier industry
- Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of external and/or internal business partners within scope of responsibility, team and/or matrix environment
- Ability to uncover customer needs, position specific solutions, handle objections and close deals
- Ability to exercise judgment, negotiate and make sound business decisions effectively based on level of authority and underwriting guidelines
- Strong ability to identify, analyze and solve problems as well as the ability to learn rapidly, adapt quickly to change, exercise influence, and manage and prioritize multiple concurrent projects
