Basic Function

This role will report into the Sr. Manager of Technical Accounting with a dotted line to the Sr. Manager of External Reporting. The purpose of the role is to assist in researching technical accounting matters (US GAAP/IFRS) and assist in the preparation of the Company's periodic financial reporting to the SEC. This position will need to interact with the broader organization, develop and maintain effective business relationships with teams in several Finance functions and the Company's business units.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Perform technical accounting research and provide interpretation of ambiguous and complex accounting guidance in accordance with LyondellBasell's Corporate Accounting Policies (US GAAP and IFRS).
  • Prepare accounting memoranda providing documentation of the Company's application of accounting principles to specific transactions or events.
  • Review contracts to identify complex accounting matters and provide accounting guidance to the business units and segment controlling organizations.
  • Participate in assessing the impact of proposed accounting pronouncements and regulations (from the SEC, FASB, IASB, PCAOB, etc.) and assist supervisor in formulating the Company's position on proposed accounting standards.
  • Develop recommendations regarding the adoption and implementation of accounting changes for the Company.
  • Assist the supervisor with internal and external audit issues.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of the quarterly and annual SEC filings and the IFRS Annual Report.
  • Compile and review tie-out support for publicly released financial information.
  • Drives continuous process improvements to mitigate risks throughout the organization.
  • Fosters an environment of strong ethics, morale, leadership and teamwork.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in accounting/finance is required.
  • Professional Accounting Certification (Registered Accountant, Chartered Accountant or CPA) is preferred.
  • Preferred 7+ years accounting experience.
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP and SEC Reporting required.
  • Working knowledge of XBRL preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years Big 4 public accounting experience.
  • Able to influence others on important, complex and non-routine accounting issues.
  • Willingness to create or change procedures to effectively implement new or existing accounting policies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to meet deadline, work well under pressure and produce accurate results.
  • Effective listening skills.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English is required.
