We are looking for a Manager, Structures & Pricing to develop and execute on strategies advancing our Commercial operations and term management functions, leveraging data and digital. The role will ensure the Commercial team uses a consistent modeling framework and systematic, data-driven approach to enhance market value creation, capture insights from generation, and foster competitive positioning for our customer solutions. The role will be instrumental in transforming AES from a siloed commercial data state to an integrated and networked platform.

Main Responsibilities

  • Establish, test and prove, and implement models and best practices for proper valuation of structured physical and financial products to support integration of renewables, traditional generation, battery energy storage systems, IoT devices and distributed generation to serve client needs.
  • With Marketing & Origination, CFE & EMA, Term Trading and Asset Development teams, ensure valuation and modeling of structured and complex transactions are consistent and strong across the organization.
  • With CTRM and IT teams, ensure models and approaches are properly incorporated, tested and proved in the CTRM and related systems.
  • Establish, deploy and own advanced analytics and machine learning approaches to enhance variable margin associated with physical, financial, asset and contractual market positions. In collaboration with the Digital and in-market Commercial and Risk teams identify, design, pilot and scale specific projects that improve variable margin capture through better prediction, optimization and decision algorithms / engines.
  • Deliver analysis and insightful conclusions to drive new solution design, and deal structuring, messaging insights to improve our transactional deal-close rate with strategic clients. In collaboration with Digital and in-market Commercial teams establish the necessary data platforms and dashboards that enable drill-down and aggregation capabilities to broaden the engagement of all commercial teams in new insights and transformational solutions.
  • With management team, recruit, manage, and develop analysts on team to support valuation modeling infrastructure development, common modeling frameworks, task-level initiatives, and business-wide strategies.
  • Manage pipeline of valuation requests from Marketing & Origination, CFE & EMA and Term Trading teams in a timely, prioritized, and most commercially rational manner.
  • Establish strong partnerships, collaboration, and influence with business area stakeholders. Obtain and coordinate resources, establish accountability, and help ensure timely delivery of commitments.
  • Be a change agent for the data driven commercial decisions and roadmap for predictive analytics across the enterprise, collaborating with change management and communications teams.



Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or the sciences, or equivalent.
  • Advanced degree and/or certifications in an analytic discipline and data analysis preferred.
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience in the energy industry and in leadership roles.
  • Strong understanding of commercial value chain and end-to-end energy trading business processes.
  • Strong understanding of data analytics, portfolio and risk management concepts and tools.
  • Expert familiarity with common energy transactions including physical electricity contracts, financial energy transactions, swaps, variable-volume offtake agreements (i.e. wind and solar), load agreements, FTRs, and both exchange and bilateral trade types.
  • Expert familiarity with cash flow, future, forward, and optional agreements.
  • Expert familiarity with certain/intrinsic and uncertain/extrinsic valuation.
  • MISO, PJM, CAISO, ISONE, NYISO, and ERCOT market structure experience essential.
  • Track record of delivering value-added innovative commercial structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large, complex projects. Demonstrated ability to influence and manage change across diverse teams and cultures.
  • Proven ability to be a global team leader and player.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable commercial agility; ability to reorder critical deal valuation requests based on new commercial requirements, under tight deadlines and sometimes changing requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills.
