Capital Allocations Strategist & Actuary
The Opportunity
As the Capital Allocations Strategist & Actuary, you will work in a fast paced, innovative and collaborative environment designing, modeling and implementing benchmarking and transfer pricing, capital allocation and product performance measurement programs. This role will have the opportunity to work with the Head of Treasury Strategic Initiatives on finance initiatives:
- Developing an enterprise-wide capital budgeting and allocations framework that will have implications for how we measure business and enterprise returns, price our products, hedge and otherwise manage our debt and equity capital
- Apply understanding of life insurance/annuity products, risk management, and capital frameworks to drive strategic transaction analysis and recommendations
- Implementing transfer pricing expense and revenue in management reporting and forecasting frameworks to highlight company performance throughout the value chain
The Team
The Capital Allocations Strategist & Actuary is a member of the Treasury organization which is a dynamic team of individuals with diverse backgrounds that are focused on:
- Maintaining a balance between high and sustainable returns for policyholders, and a strong capital position, while enabling MassMutual to take advantage of growth opportunities; within internal, regulatory and rating agency constraints
- Minimizing time spent on production and data manipulation activities by transforming our modeling, analytic, and reporting capabilities and implementing automation and technology where possible
The Impact
This role will help drive achieved product performance reporting and analysis, as part of an enterprise-wide capital budgeting and allocation framework, and deliver analysis to inform strategic decision-making:
- Developing capital budgeting and allocation framework to enhance product risk/return profile, working closely with the Capital Management Team and Corporate Actuarial
- Identify and evaluate capital spend for business and strategic opportunities, across financial, risk, and strategic views
- Participate in capital transaction analysis, including M&A, capital markets, and reinsurance transactions
- Improving methods for allocating net investment income (NII), expenses, and capital to a product level, based on product characteristics and informed by benchmarking, working with FP&A partners
The Minimum Qualifications
- FSA or career ASA
- BS in accounting, finance, business, actuarial science or a related field
- 5+ years of progressive experience in actuarial roles, including capital management, product pricing (retail and institutional insurance products), or enterprise risk management, etc.
- Strong multi-tasking skills and ability to adapt to change
- Ability to proactively take ownership of projects and drive them through to completion
- Ability to perform independent research and prepare analyses of the impact of new developments / transactions
- Strong desire to “roll-up sleeves”
The Ideal Qualifications
- Experience in capital management, allocation, and budgeting or M&A/reinsurance transaction analysis
- Knowledge of statutory, rating agency, and economic capital frameworks
- Knowledge of US GAAP and statutory accounting
- Experience in data automation and transformation
- Experience working in a Finance transformational setting; driving change and managing competing priorities
- Detail-oriented with demonstrated oral and written communication skills
