Position Summary

As part of the comprehensive internship program, interns will participate in events which help them build a strong network within the SJI community and with fellow interns. Interns enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work environment throughout this 11-week summer program. The Ignite Internship Program also offers participants mentorship, educational seminars, volunteer opportunities, and visibility within the organization.
The Finance Intern will support the Financial Planning & Analysis team with financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, business analysis, and process improvement activities. This internship provides hands-on exposure to corporate finance and an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a professional business environment while developing analytical, communication, and technical skills.

Essential Functions:

• Support monthly and quarterly financial reporting, including analysis of actual results compared with budget, forecast, and prior year.
• Assist with the preparation of monthly forecasts, the annual budget, and long-term financial projections.
• Gather, organize, validate, and analyze financial and operational data from multiple sources.
• Help build and maintain financial models, schedules, and management reporting materials.
• Perform research and ad hoc analysis to support data-driven business and financial decisions.
• Partner with FP&A team members and business stakeholders to understand performance drivers and communicate findings.
• Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes through standardization, automation, and better use of data and tools.
• Prepare clear summaries, charts, and presentation materials for management review.
• Complete other finance and administrative assignments as needed.

Learning Opportunities:

• Gain practical experience in FP&A, management reporting, forecasting, and budgeting.

• Develop an understanding of how financial and operational performance supports business decision-making.

• Build technical proficiency in Excel, financial modeling, data analysis, and executive-level presentation development.

• Work with finance professionals and cross-functional business partners in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

Required Background:

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Analytics, or a related field.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; experience with formulas, pivot tables, charts, or financial modeling is preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Prior internship, coursework, or project experience in finance, accounting, data analysis, or business is a plus, but not required.

Compensation Range:

$18 - 28

We are committed to pay transparency and ensuring equitability compensation for all employees. The pay range for this position reflects the base salary only and does not include benefits, bonuses, or other forms of compensation that might be part of the total compensation package. The specific salary offered will be based on a candidate’s qualifications, education, and experience.
