We are looking to hire a Field Engineer (Structural and Mechanical Systems) as part of the on-site C-17 Field Services Engineering and Technical Support (FETS) team for the Royal Air Force customer at RAF Brize Norton UK. This Engineer would be responsible for drafting and releasing Engineering products to help sustain the C-17 Aircraft, as well as mentoring and guiding the customer with their routine enquiries.

 

This position is part of the on-site C-17 Field Operations Team supporting the Royal Air Force customer at RAF Brize Norton.  We have a Team of nearly 100 employees who work directly with the C-17 operational Squadron, providing real-time, time critical and dynamic assistance at the point of delivery. This is a Team at the vanguard, and we are offering an opportunity for you to join that Team.

 

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Participating in resolving complex operational problems that require a high level of ingenuity, innovation, and coordination with the RAF customer and other Boeing entities.

  • Providing the RAF customer troubleshooting and repair guidance.

  • Helping with the interpretation of technical documents to ensure the intent and purpose of the documentation is understood and followed.

  • Providing specialized on-the-job training by explaining the theory of operations and demonstrating basic operating, maintenance, servicing procedures, and troubleshooting techniques.

  • Investigating and pursuing courses of action necessary to safely support RAF missions including assistance with spares supply and support equipment.

  • Documenting field site activities by preparing and transmitting publication change requests, continuous process improvement data, and technical reports to provide status of product or customer issues and developments. 

In addition, the preferred candidate will be required to provide similar support and advice for other C-17 customers worldwide.

 

Ideally you will have a strong background in the mechanical/airframe repairs, system operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of aircraft hydro-mechanical, and propulsion systems. Prior experience in troubleshooting complex integrated systems, within an operational environment is desirable.
C-17 experience is preferred. This position requires the ability to work independently under time constraints and stress, in a demanding, on-call, around the clock operational environment.

Travel to other operating locations to assist with operation, maintenance, and recovery of any operators C-17 aircraft may be required.

 

Required Education / Experience:

  • You will have an engineering degree in an accredited and relevant subject (aerospace, mechanical or equivalent).  Prior knowledge of Non-Destructive Inspection techniques, Computer Aided Design and the interpretation of engineering drawings is desirable.    
  • You will be dealing with the Boeing Globemaster III, C-17, a highly complex aircraft, and a proven background in supporting an aviation product in the field, and that you can demonstrate that you have the experience and ability to perform the functions listed beforehand will identify you as a suitable candidate.
  • This role will require see the suitable applicant enrolled onto a United States Air Force Sanctioned C-17 Delegated Engineering Authority (DEA) program. This Program is conducted through on-the-job training and will include certain travel opportunities to other Boeing C-17 facilities, around the world, to achieve the required standard. The program will take approximately 4 years (depending on prior experience).
  • Essential to be able to obtain UK SC security clearance.
